Anybody carry a fixed blade knife on their belt while hunting?

I carry a fixed blade on my belt and a folder in my pocket while hunting in western NY. The beltknife saved my ass one day. I lowered my bow and pack from the treestand, then started down the tree (climbing treestand) and on the way down the platform slipped and I fell a few feet and there I was hanging upside down attatched to the platform. I did a sit up to access the pickle I was in, my boots were very firmly stuck to the platform. I relaxed to the upside down position to think and rest for a moment when my cell phone and my folding knife slid out of my pockets and landed below me. Now what,,,,,, so I did another sit up and pulled the fixed blade from its sheath. I cut one side of the strap holding my right foot in, switched hands (one hand on the stand and one with the knife) I cut the strap holding my left foot. Then dangling by one arm I tossed the knife to the side, way to the side, then dropped to the ground. I gathered my stuff and limped back to my truck with severely sprained ankles.
I have carried a fixed blade in the past and after that ordeal I will always carry one. But my $.02 only, you do you, and if you want a belt knife and it gets in the way try carrying it scout style (horizontal).

This was the knife I had on me at the time.

I have a folder in my pack as a back up.
It is a small 2” blade and maybe 2 3/4” folded?
This is the blade I’m wearing on my belt this season.
It is a 2 3/4 in blade and 6 1/2” overall length. I wear it at about 4 o’clock.
I hunt whitetails and you really don’t need anything really big for that.
As I’m sure has been mentioned, packs are set down, we get tangled up in a mess, etc…. If you have a knife on your belt it is always with you.
