If you’re painting with an hvlp gun, you should be able to adjust it to apply “webbing.” Theres a Cerakote application video on YouTube that’ll show you the adjustments they use for their product and recommended gun. I’m certain if you’ve been spraying cars, you’ll be able to translate the adjustments to your spray gun and whatever material you’re using. Auto paint and clear would be very durable.

You understand the most important part which is the prep in my opinion. Everything else is straight forward. Lay the paint down, let it dry and clear coat it.
