Scope selection for whitetail/range

Thanks for the reply,

To give a little more info on the Meopta, it was good, not great. It was not as good as a Vari X II that I compared it to in low light or eye relief. And for those reasons, I sold it. It was hard to identify when I dug into it. I think it was actually an early Artemis model.
Ok - I feel better now! LoL!

The 50 mm might be doable with medium height rings. I had issues with a 56 and high rings until getting a cheek riser.

Thanks for all the replies. I met with a gunsmith yesterday who told me the barrel is too thin on the R 700 243 to thread for a suppressor. So now I'm not sure I'll continue trying to complete this project with this rifle. I may shift gears and buy a tikka threaded from the factory. I don't want to sell the 700. So, unfortunately I'm at a spot where I have to adjust the plan. Ultimately I think I'd rather keep the 700 instead of liquidating it and save further for the project. Which means no scope purchase any time soon. I'm going to think about it for a few days.

Should be plenty of material to thread it 1/2-28 and use an adapter. And as far as scopes go I would take a credo over a huron have a 3-9 credo and a 4-12 huron and much prefer the credo.

I had a mountain rifle from 1992 in 280, muzzle diameter was .570, 24” barrel if I remember. Today id thread it 1/2x28 and not think twice. Traded it for a 6mm.

Will add, I had a maven rs2 on the rifle and loved it. Fed ex forklift driver ran over the case the rifle was in during shipment and bent the hell out of the scope. Quick call to maven and the guy I traded to had a new scope on the way.

I don't know your gun however, I've had several of mine threaded 1/2X28. A simple adapter as others stated worked perfectly. I actually just had an old Savage weather warrior in 7 mag threaded to 1/2X28. Put my suppressor on it and went to the Farm to test it. 1 MOA with the right ammo all day long.
