So tonight should be first feeding to keep new snake on schedule. Got him Sunday. He’s seldom exposed… usually burrowed. Has been very lightly held. After very light handling he instantly reburrows. Going to try and feed in full time encloser. Considering the burrowing tendency, how should i go about feeding him? He’s just going to immediately hide. Very calm during brief handling sessions, but won’t stay exposed at all in enclosure once left alone.

We can now add a snake to son’s puppy, 21 chickens, aquarium fish and crawfish (which he considers a separate pet from the fish in the aquarium.

Mama LIVID over snake. I did it while she was out of town with no consult, but boy is thrilled.

Ive owned snakes now for about 25yrs. I always feed them in a separate container. That way they dont associate you reaching in to handle them and thinking its feeding time. After they eat give them about 30mins before picking them up and putting them back into their main enclosure. Otherwise they might regurgitate it.

Now my snake is on the larger side so gitting bit isn't a fun. My snake is a 8ft red tailed boa. My son has a ball python. Both we feed in a separate container.

10-4. In enclosure and separate container seems to be about 50-50.

This first feeding and 7 week old big box corn snake. Impulse buy, not gonna lie.

Was inclined to feed in enclosure. With fascinated 6 year old boy, not too worried about (eventually) handling other than just feeding. Hovered bait all over litter and no interest.. No dice while buried… at all. Wound up putting him in second container. Would not eat from chopsticks, but gobbled up two quickly from floor of Second contained. Moved him back 10 min later as easy on him as possible.

Will leave untouched until Sat morning while digests.

Son thought it was super cool! I also found it neat. IMG_9959.jpegIMG_9975.jpegIMG_9961.jpegIMG_9976.jpeg

He would probably like to see my boa eat. She eats 2 to 3 adult rats in one feeding.

In the 10yrs I've owned her she only bit me once on the hand. It was my fault that I had my hand there and it was a reaction bite from her.

Snakes just like to hide, especially when they are young like that. Feed in a separate enclosure to make sure they don't eat the substrate.

If you want to be a real snake man, look a Biodudes website and make a bio active terrarium, My dad and I did stuff like this when I want young and it was a fun time. Its basically a tank with insects and plants to keep the snake healthy.

I have an adult hognose and she's fairly tame when fed.

We have an adult kingsnake. I put the mice on a large paper towel and lay them it in the enclosure like a picnic. This snake doesn't drag them into the substrate. I'll scoop up the paper towel a few hours later.

A separate escape proof feeding container like a deli cup or rubbermaid with a paper towel in it is the way to go with little snakes. You'll have trouble if it ingests any of that mulch.

I used to care for a ton of snakes back in the day. Good times.

Just keep telling her corn snakes don't get that big. Everyone throws 4' adult size around but most of them top out around 3-3.5' which is a big difference in mass compared to a true 4' snake.

What's she going to do to retaliate? Louis Vittone? Prince Charles Spaniel? New car?

Well, new car was July. I had a new bag made with some harvested alligators for Christmas. New springer puppy in Nov.

Maybe I’ll come out alive.
