Any Savage Fans? My First

My first Savage bolt action is incoming this week. It’s a Stevens 200 223 Rem 1:9” twist. This is essentially a 110 pre accu-trigger. Is there anything I should be aware of in advance? Thanks

Just go shoot it. The accuracy is likely to surprise you. All of my Savages are accu-trigger rifles and have been very accurate.

Just shoot it and enjoy. Do not put a bore scope down the barrel. I’ve got a number of savage varmint rifles and they just shoot well. When you look down one of them barrels with a bore scope - well let’s just say I’ve seen better looking railroad tracks. The chatter marks in the lands are just not describable. Don’t ask me how but they shoot as well as my expensive custom rifles.

I’ve seldom seen a savage that didn’t shoot good to very good right out of the box. They’re crude but they work.

Don't expect a silky smooth action, but otherwise, enjoy it! I've had a few Savage rifles and they've shot very well for the price.

I've got a lightweight model 116/16 in 6.5 creed. I didn't pay more than $500.00 for it.
Great rifle for the money and what I need. 20" barrel in one of the kuiu camos, looks pretty good.
I do need to get the barrel threaded.

I got 2 model 10s and really like them both. I hear they have feeding issues but have never had any myself. Ones a 350 legend and the other is a 243. Both are crazy accurate.

Just got my first Savage rifle last month. A 110 Ultralite in 280ai. I'm extremely pleased with it. From my reading I was expecting the bolt/action to be horrible. Not sure if others just got lemons or mine is an exception, but its smooth and I have no complaints. Not tikka smooth, but I am totally fine with it and it does not get hung up at all. Shoots 155gr Terminal Ascents fantastically.

Hardly ever do you hear of a savage shooting well. I have a savage axis in 6.5cm and it shoots well enough that I don’t really want to change anything. But debating changing it to a .223 training rifle

I only have one Savage rifle and it was pre-accutrigger so I put a Rifle Basix trigger in it. I'll just say that I really like the RB trigger design and after 20 years of using it, I still like it. Just a FYI, in case you decide to swap the triggers.

Around 2010 or so, I got in invited to deer hunt with some friends from college. I liked guns, but didn’t have a bolt action rifle, just a couple of ARs and pistols. Went to Fred Meyer and bought a Savage Axis with a Bushnell scope on sale for around $250. Gave it a “trigger job” by trimming one of the springs, based on a video I saw on YouTube. Then I killed my first mule deer with it. I’ll always have a soft spot for Savage. Upgraded to a 110 with AccuTrigger with better glass shortly thereafter. Still use that gun. It’s been great to me.

Finally got a scope screwed on. I will probably try some 68gr HPBT’s and some 69gr TGK first.

Have 2 savages in the safe. Both Axis guns
A 6.5 CM that is a great shooter.
And a 7mm-08 that is my wife's in a youth model cause she's small and its a great shooter also.

Biggest thing I did was a M-carbo Trigger kit and a Bolt Lift kit in both guns. Really made them much better.
The stocks suck but most factory ones do in a lower end rifle. But they work as they have to.

I have a 110 long range hunter that I bought after seeing a deal posted on here through Cabelas that started as a 6.5cm. Now it sits in an MDT XRS and was swapped to a 223 AI Criterion barrel. It’s my main coyote thermal gun right now even though I definitely have more expensive setups. It’s nice being able to swap barrels easy and you have readily available bolt heads to change calibers very cheap and it’s quick and easy to swap.
