Any one use a Subaru as a hunting buggy

I used to stuff deer in the back of a Subaru Outback every year

I have a year-old outback, my first Subaru. I own a farm in WI, have taken it on a couple spot & stalk archery Pronghorn hunts, numerous pheasant hunts, canoe trips in remote Ontario, and have hauled several whitetails on a cargo tray. I drive it on bad logging roads, through cut corn fields, out on rugged ATV double-tracks in the Badlands, over hill & dale...I've had one wheel up in the air more times than I can count.
Mostly like it. I have the smaller engine and initially thought it was underpowered but it was just not what I was used to, and I no longer see it that way. Just the nature of the smaller engine.
The electronics are not as good...compared to our Toyotas, they are not as refined and the 'eyesight' feature is fickle. Have had it disable itself dozens of times on a long day of driving.
Better tires, especially full winters up here in the North, are important. I hauled my buddy's new Ford Expedition out of the ditch last winter - I was on grass, not pavement - and the reason I could go and he could not was all about the rubber.
I do not miss my F350 98% of the time, but there are those moments where the subie is just not the right vehicle for the job.

It is great to see you suby guys and girls proving that great big trucks are not needed for successful hunts.

Beater Ford Excursion, V10 gasser engine. You don't drop huge money, 4wd, F250 chassis. Endless interior room. Plenty of spare parts. Lastly, pretty cheap given nobody wants to pay for gas.

But big and good for bumping about. With good tires, they are pretty capable. Add a lift and a winch, and you have some real ability to get back there.

Outback's are aptly named and awesome off road. I was completely surprised by how capable they were my first time taking one in the backcountry ( Colorado).

I am thinking about picking up a new outback to use for hunting when I am not towing something. I have a 2020 cummins, but $6/gallon adds up. I am pretty tall, 6’5, are the new outbacks too small for me? Any tall guys driving them?

I have owned a Subaru from 2016. Driven to many states in US and the experience is fantastic. Never got any problem and very smooth driving.
