Been thinking about looking into a membership at COSSA. I’ve heard it’s a pretty good range, but members only from what I can see on their webpage. Living in the valley- not a lot of good places to shoot LR , especially when fire danger is up. Looking for any feedback. I plan on calling over there this week, but curious if any of the community are members.

Its is member only for self use.
But you can attend any of the events.

Seems like weekends are pretty loaded up with events and probably busy. Weekdays as a member may be the best?

I was a member back in 2004-2008. It a good range back then and I think it has improved. Weekdays is probably your best bet for shooting there.

I’m a member and I’m out there quite often. It’s a good range, all disciplines, and they have improved things. They just put in another 1,000 yard range with some plans of doing a hunters course in the surrounding hills….which would be very cool.

Is shooting on the weekends a zoo with all the stuff they put on? Looking at their calendar it looks pretty busy, and it seems like they close the gong range sometimes. I would primarily be looking to make sure rifles are validated and get reps's in leading up to season which is a pain here in the valley with fire danger restrictions. Taking a day off to drive over and shoot during the week isn't ideal- but I will make it work if needed.

At times it can be busy but I've never been out there where I felt it was overly crowded. Yes, the gong range can be closed at times but I don't find it affects me all that often. I'm usually at the gong range really early, like 6am (summer). On the new range I believe it will have moa targets out to 1000 and that one should be open full time, from what I have heard since it is further away from the Nosler range where they hold events but I'm not 100% on that yet.

Where do you shoot in the valley?

I shoot out at the McGowan range outside of Springfield sometimes but let my membership go there. They only have a range to 200. Mostly shoot on private timber ground that's open to the public.

I signed up for the orientation class they have coming up next Thursday. I called and talked to them, and from what everyone is saying it sounds like a pretty good fit. Thanks everyone for the responses.

The Elks Lodge has a pretty nice range outside of Philomath. It goes to 600 yards. It’s for members and guests. If you are a member you can take a class and get a key. Been considering just joining the Lodge down in Corvallis only for the range.

There's a range in siletz that has gongs to 550 yds also. Membership is only $105 a year and is a Decent place to shoot.
