Any interest in a Tikka 11mm Dovetail Rail

I'm getting ready to have an 11mm dovetail rail machined for attaching a European style olympic/biathalon style sight to. I've mocked this up with a cheap aluminum rail and like what I found, so my plan is to get some more machined out of steel that provide the dovetail to the top of the receiver using the Tikka scope mount bolts.

The rail will mount with 4x #6-48 flathead screws with a 5/32 hex drive that you can get off Amazon in packs of 10.

The plan is to machine it out of 4140 hardened steel with a black oxide coating. Aluminum would be lighter, but it's kind of a small rail so I'm going with steel for the extra insurance against getting knocked around with a tall sight sticking out. The rail will be 0.1" tall, which will mount all those dovetail sights flush against the top of the receiver.

I'm looking at $85 each if I order 5, or $55 each if I order 10. I can use 2 myself. Anyone else want in on these? If I order next week, they'll be here by the beginning of July, which still leaves plenty of time to Practice for UT iron sight season.

As soon as the rails get in and I get a chance to dial in the front sight height, I'll also be having some clamp on sight bases made to mount one of the Williams Muzzleloader globe sights up front. They'll look something like this:

I don't need to have one of these but I'll support the effort. I'll take two @ $55 or one @ $85 just to help support the project. Shooting irons at a couple hundred yards with an iron sighted Tikka would be fun!

Hey Jay, I've got you down. I went ahead and ordered 10 since it was barely any more $$$ than 5. Should be here in about a month, I'll let you know once I've checked them out on my own rifle and make sure everything fits.

If anyone else is interested, let me know, I'll try to keep track of interested folks in this thread. Once I've checked POI against the factory front dovetail sight height, I should be able to get the clamp-on front sight adapters ordered and here by late summer.

Rails came in this week and they look great. I took the .308 out to the range today with the rail and new rear sight to get the measurements for the front sight height for the new clamp on base I’m making.

These shoot GREAT. Makes my eyes feel 16 again. Height is about perfect with the Rokstok also.

@The Guide , I’m waiting on a batch of screws that should be here next week and I can get some headed your way.

The rail is designed to be reversible. Mounted the way I have it, it leaves a bit sticking off the rear of the receiver (and ends short of the front of the receiver) to give some support under the sight overhang in the event of a drop. Flipped the other way, it runs the full length from front to rear of receiver.

Do you any more of these 11mm dovetails?

I do! I ended up making a matching front mount for the Williams Precision Muzzleloader globe front sight. Sale post here:

I’ve been kicking around a similar idea. How are you liking those sights? Do they seem durable enough to take them on a hunt?

(Please no laughing at the tiny buck)

10 hour drive to southern Utah, 100 miles of bouncing around forest service roads in the front seat, 7 days and 33 miles of knocking around the woods with a pack, and 10hrs driving home. I checked zero when I got to the unit with a 10rd group (no shift), bullet went right where I wanted it to at 170yds, and I checked zero again with another 10rd group yesterday after I got home (still no shift).

I’m super pleased. The sights are rugged, accurate, fast, and the adjustments are repeatable. This won’t be my last hunt with them.

Very nice! What sight did you get? I have looked at a gehmann for my muzzy. One with a zero stop would be sick! And significantly less expensive than say a revic or supra
