Hey, just curious if there are any Alberta based Elk hunters on here? If so how's your pre-season scouting going? I'm targeting the western zones myself but curious on how some of the other areas are doing.
Yup, Alberta hunting as well. Hunting South west zones of province in the foothills. Scouting has been going well, hiking in nearly every weekend to keep tabs on the herd of cows (65-70), expecting bulls to come to them when season is on.
Ya I've done some scouting north of the crowsnest pass. Lots of sign way up in the hills. I have some trail cams set up now so hopefully I'll capture something on them. I never actually saw any (I was only out for a day), but I'm brand new to the elk hunting as I just moved from Ontario 6 months ago. I'm based out of Lethbridge.
Was out last weekend in the northern portion of the province. Lots of rubs, seen a couple cows (one really old girl that was very large). Not much on the vocal side of things for Bulls just the scrapes. Did have a little conversation going with a couple cows in some deep timber areas but after a minute they went silent and I couldn't track them. Your guy's spots are opening up tomorrow, heading out for opening day down there?
