I’m trying to decide between a TA33 or a TA11 for my 16” do-it-all AR. I’m really leaning toward the TA33 but worried about the narrow field of view. Is it really that terrible? Is there anyone with one in NW Georgia that has one and would let me look through it? I don’t feel like driving down to the metro ATL area to try one out.

Second Q: I really want the TA33 in the horseshoe dot but EuroOptic only has the horseshoe dot in the amber colored reticle. I feel like the amber reticle would be awful. Should I bite the bullet and get amber or just compromise and get a red or green chevron. Thanks in advance and I’ll hang up and listen.

I had a ta31f. I no longer do but I miss it greatly. The quality of glass was great imo and theyre just very robust. Eye relief is the main shortcoming, nose to charging handle may be some what exaggerated but you definitely have to get on it with 1-1.5" of eye relief.
I shot steel at 550 often just bracketing the the appropriate subtension on known target sizes.
I really wanted a green horse shoe but had the red chevron.
Zeroing is a breeze imo too. Doing it again I'd opt for a piggy backed rmr potentially or just use the reticle (chevron) as a hat on the target at close ranges.

If you find a good deal on one I'd go for it, 4x would be my preferred magnification.

The 1-6, 1-8, 2-10 in that price range could get you a nice variable power optic as well.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I have a 1-6 accupoint on my SFAR and I love it. I just wanted to try the Acog just for a change of pace.

I have a 33 and play with 110s infrequently. I greatly prefer the battery powered illumination over a fiber optic. While performance is better in the 11 range it is hard to beat the compact bomb proof ta33 for size and weight. You literally save half a pound over an 11. Mine is on a carry handle which it matches perfectly. The eye relief is great on both and the can be run on a 308 or other stiff recoiling rifle vs the ta31. As for field of view, the ta33 is very adequate for running and gunning out to 3-400 yards. I would not call it a scan and acquire optic but it is great for quick point and shoots on things you have already seen. A ta11 will be much better at scanning and follow ups due to the slightly better zoom and much wider field of view.

Don’t think of it as a scope, or, if you want a scope, look elsewhere. Instead, think of it as a mid-range red dot. It will get hits on a silhouette out to the effective range of 5.56 quickly. Used properly they’re exceptional, but in the wrong role they’re pretty trash.

I am not a fan of an acog, for anything. I don’t think they do anything well, but aggravate me. A red dot with a magnifier can do more, but for a “do it all” rifle, just use a LVPO and train with it. You’ll be able to do more, more better.

Thank you. That’s kind of what I’m thinking. I have a spare RMR microdot lying around. Is it worth piggybacking it on a TA33 for up close actions. Don’t get me wrong, LPVO’s are great and my accupoint is probably my favorite optic that I own. The reason I’m not interested in an LPVO is that I’ve got two very good LPVO’s (one on an ARX and one on an SFAR that I use to hunt) and want to try something different and it seems to me that on my other rifles, the scope set on either 1x or 4x/6x depending on the maximum magnification. Whats the point of having the drawbacks of an LPVO if all I really want is 3x/4x on the Acog plus the negligible additional weight of the Rmr for up close?

My 33 has an RMR. The 33 is the fastest of the big three though so it benefits less than the 11 and 31 though.
