Antler earrings. Seal them?

I'm making my wife some antler earrings from my 2020 bull. The antlers have sat outside all year and I just cut and sanded these discs. When washing the powdered antler out of the pores in the center, brownish liquid came out that I presume was old blood.

Should I seal these or do you think they would be fine and not smell rotten after drying?IMG_20211220_211001535.jpg

Hmm. I’m not sure how that bone marrow will age. Would think it would eventually deteriorate? Maybe a layer of thinned epoxy to seal?

Good idea, I may have to try to make something like that. I’d probably let them dry out for awhile then seal them with epoxy. You’d then be able to sand down any drips smooth and then polish them up real nice.

I was thinking I might use some clear nail polish, if my wife has any. I'm also making a shuffleboard table for the family for Christmas, so maybe I'll use whatever coating I get for the playing surface..... Probably polyurethane.

I also used a piece of antler with a couple of holes drilled in it for the closure on my kid's cloak... They're really into dungeons and dragons and he wanted a cloak for Christmas. So my wife made him one that is pretty badass. I asked her if she'd make me one... Kinda joking kinda not. She hates sewing
