Antelope rifle scope

I ordered a Maven RS.2 - 2-10x38 SFP SHR (MOA) just to try one out. Not a scope for antelope but general purpose.

I prefer Leupold scopes, without parallax adjustment. I just like to keep things simple in a hunting rifle. My Browning A bolt in 270 Win. has a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 with the Long Range Duplex reticle. I really like having the holdover points for shooting at 300 to 500 yards, and I believe it's more reliable than twisting turrets. They don't make the VX-1 or VX-2 anymore, but it's been replaced with the "Freedom." I'd recommend the Freedom in the 3-9x40 with the Tri-MOA reticle for $220. Or you can go with the 4-12 if you feel like you need more magnification, but I've always done just fine with the 3-9's. The 4-12 won't have the eye relief that the 3-9 has.

I would say the Freedoms are much lower quality than the Vx2.
I do not care for the turrets on the Freedoms at all, they remind me of a cheap Simmons from the 90’s.

Dial and hope kind of tracking

Nightforce 5x25x56 ATACRs sit on top of every rifle I hunt with. Yes, they are kinda big and heavy, but each of my rifles run about 10# each and that's without the scope. So, clearly I'm not part of the ultralight crowd. I can't hit what I can't see and those ATACR's are plenty clear and crisp - at least for my eyes.

I put in for the draw for antelope here in AZ. If I pull a tag, I might want to use a rifle I have not hunted with before. I will probably want to rescope it and I could use some advice on which scope to buy. Maybe up to $2K but I would happily go lower and could be convinced to go higher.

Ruger No. 1 in .257 Weatherby with a 28” barrel.
I love my leupold vx5 3x15

I have a Leupold 4.5-14x40mm with the B&C reticle on my 280 AI and I really love that scope. As you stated I do not want to dial either. The B&C reticle works very well. You can still get the B&C reticle in this scope but it will also come with a turret on top so you can dial also. That does not mean that you have too, but it gives you the option. I am looking to get me one of these for my Ruger 1B in 30-06. Currently it has a fixed 4x Leupold scope on it. My son has the 4.5-14x40mm with the B&C reticle on his Ruger MKII in 6mm Remington. He loves that scope also.

The Zeiss 2-10x42mm with the Z600 reticle is also a superb scope. My son has this scope on his Winchester Model 70 in 300 WSM. Also an excellent scope.

The shoot2hunt scope. Seriously. If it won’t arrive in time, then a Maven RS1.2, Nightforce, or SWFA.

Don’t buy anything Leupold on any gun that’s going to get knocked around on rough roads.

Not sure your experience with Leupold to make your comment. But I have to agree with you. I put a VX5 on a browning A bolt 300 WSM and killed a deer and elk with it without any issues. Then flew to Alaska for a Dall sheep hunt and when arrived it was shooting 6” right at 100. Adjusted and killed a nice ram so no big deal right. A couple years later drew a NV Cali Bighorn tag. The unit had rough roads and I was traveling 50 miles a day on the ATV. Shot it the 3rd day and was 6 in off again. Ended up being pretty paranoid about it and shot it every day to verify. Too bad to because they have some great features

Leopold and most big name scopes are fragile. I used them for 15 years before I found out that there’s plenty of scopes that survive ATV rides without shifting zero.
