How do you train for "non-lethal" shot "judgement calls" when split seconds matter? Your thinking is flawed and could cost you your life. The judgement is whether or not to pull the firearm. If you make the judgment that you need to use it, it's about stopping the threat not trying to make "non-lethal" shots.

Then, in bow season especially, you can have multiple hunters actually shooting the same animal.

Buddy of mine had this happen in the flat tops, someone ass shot a bull, he double lunged it not long after. Guys came up while he was butchering and they had words. He was wearing a pistol and it got heated but they left ultimately. Can’t believe what went down, bad look for all parties involved. Hunters as a whole need to be better than this.

That's the dilemma isn't it? I'll be ready to make that choice should I need to.

You do you and worry about your own life, I'll worry about mine.
And you had better be very careful with that firearm response choice in your home state. I likely have far more leeway here in Idaho.

The kids were not prepared for what happened - getting whupped. They also might not know how to fight against a guy who say had 3-4 years of boxing lessons as a kid or 6 years of MMA.

Someone older would have had the gun out and going off if they were kicking his buddy on the ground. It's all about understanding what's happening.

The increased competition is showing the worst in folks. People should defend themselves and rightfully so.

It’ll be interesting if we find out the rest of the story if the victims talk more.
If I put a gun on my hip for protection, then I’m confronted with this exact situation and don’t feel I can get the guys off my buddy they’re beating without using my gun, well then I’m using it. Otherwise I’m not carrying it. I decide that when I take it or leave it.

That's a pretty silly comparison when you consider that we already have a legal precedent for making the sale of meat from game animals illegal....and that law is the entire reason we have game animals left in this country today.

While I never like the idea of new laws and would prefer to live in a world where we regulated ourselves it seems increasingly obvious to me that as things like shed hunting are getting increasingly popular and the impact those activities are having on the landscape/animals are becoming more and more obvious that some action will eventually need to be taken.

I soak all of my guns and ammo in bear spray...best of both worlds! Whenever I shoot I also get a small cloud of bear spray. Helps keep my sinuses clear in the wintertime as an added bonus!
