Does anyone have first hand experience with the Core4 elevation jacket? I'm kind of kicking the puffy thing around and have not seen many first hand reviews,,,,what say you guys?

Hey, if I were you I would check out offerings from other outdoor companies. I picked up a Mountain Hardwear Compressor puffy on sale at REI for $45 (color is ugly but the performance is still there) about 3 years ago and it's still rockin. You're probably going to throw a shell over it anyway. I personally have no experience with the puffy you mentioned but it is on camofire all the time so if your heart is set on it I'd wait for it to pop up there.

I picked mine up off of Craigslist for $40. It is a Patagonia Micro Puffy that fits my bill. I am not real into paying extra because it has camo on it.

No experience with Core4's. Used several others. Compressors are good. I have the patagonia puffy pants I snagged for $15 at a yard sale....can't beat that. Also used the Outdoor Research transcedent....good, but down. I just saw that LL Bean now carries a H20 proof down (Downtek) at under a pound and with 850 fill for $170. I might actually jump on it but it lacks a hood. As others have said I wouldn't spend extra dough on the camo brands. Geartrade has some great deals on all of the above...minus LL Bean. Or maybe you'll get lucky and craigslist or yardsale one like I did with my puffy pants.

Can't comment on the Core4, but I've got a bit of experience with the First Lite Uncompaghre, the Mont-Bell Thermawrap, and the Sitka Kelvin Kelvin Lite (have both the jacket and the vest). Uncompaghre is the warmest and heaviest, Thermawrap and the Sitka are a toss up, but both are less than a 1lb... I'd recommend any of the 3, just pick the one that bests your intended use. I own, and have a use for, all 3 jackets and the vest.

I would look at the Kryptek Kratos and the Russell puffy as well. It seems like Russell is moving out of the camo arena and there are some really good sales to be had right now. The russell puffy fits between the sitka Kelvin lite and the Kratos.

Sincerely,
Thomas

It seemed like russell was doing that last year too as there were great deals to go around and then this year...more stock. I picked up a russell apx puffy this fall for $35.
