Another Long Range TV Show Misses Coues Deer By 3 Feet!!!

Just watched a tv show something like Western Hunting wih Chris and Mark Denham. The two of them were Coues hunting in AZ. They set up for a cross canyon shot and edited out the long distance they were shooting at. They take this long range shot and miss this deer by 3 FEET TO THE RIGHT!!!! This is on a tv show for all to watch .The deer walks off. They check out the rifle and scope combination later and find the rifle to be perfectly zeroed. These guys obviously have no clue what they are doing and should not be taking this type of shot if they MISS A DEER BY 3 FEET!!! It looks like these guys make a living off of the monetization of wildlife and promoting long range shooting at wildlife. Just another sickening example of poor ambassadors of the long range shooting fraternity
This is becoming the norm and now everyone thinks it’s ethical to take these Hail Mary shots . This is what is f***** up with the promotion of the inexperienced hunters/shooters promotion of long range shooting. How many of you have missed a deer by 3 FEET ?

Sounds like your average Youtube coues hunt. At least the deer got away in this case. Usually its miss by a couple feet, deer is so far away that it doesn't know what's going on, hunter shoots again and kills the deer or wounds it.

nobody here is going to admit to being a LR hunter that missed or wounded. however, we all know it's common. lower your expectations. there is almost never a reason to take LR shots past 500 yards...you can almost always get closer. less "gamesmanship" and more sportsmanship is sorely needed.

I've done that before... On a deer, at 1050. Perfect position, all the time in the world. Slight wind, but consistent, calculated the wind perfectly.

Broke the shot and as I watched trace I realized I didn't hold any wind even after I calculated it. Would have put the shot perfectly. Was probably 2 feet in front of his chest.

A 3’ mis followed by a corrected shot that kills the animal is celebrated all over the internet like someone is the coolest dude on the block, with never a mention of animals that were never recovered. There are a number of forums I have no desire to visit again because of it. The whole shot spotting is 95% just an excuse to take pot shots beyond that person’s abilities.

Would of could of should of I've heard that a few times. Not able to get closer. I understand some people just aren't able to get closer so they have to try the hail mary. Carry on.

A lot of people are ignorantly responding to this as a reason "no one should long rang hunt." This is in fact an excellent reason for it. A lot of little things have to all be done correctly to make an accurate shot. Unlike a short range shot were pulling your shot or missing your windage is likely to result in a wounded animal. At these ranges you're more likely to have a complete miss and the animal gets to walk away unscathed. You get an opportunity to correct what you did wrong and the animal doesn't suffer.

It doesn’t sound bad if you say he “only” missed the deer by 3 feet, if you think about it, 3 feet is a pretty small number if you are talking about 1000 yards. I’m not trying to guilt trip you, but it sounds like you owe these gents an apology

You're missing the point, and the math. At worst bad shots are made at long range at the same rate as they are at short ranges. At short ranges you're going to have more bad shots result in gut shots than at long ranges by at least an order of magnitude. Therefore, short range hunting is going to result in more gut shots than long range hunting assuming that short range and long range shots are taken at the same rate. We know the overwhelming number of shots by hunters are taken at short range. Therefore we should expect that short range hunting results in exponentially more gut shots.
