Maybe I’m more cynical than you but I believe the “reason” for that is less about swaying the opinion of antis and more about looking for “likes” and “views” or whatever during the off season when there are less posts to be made about hunting.

Oh, you misunderstand. I completely agree with you here. I'm simply laying out the incentive structure that drives it, because I think it's important that we understand it. We can use it to our advantage and sway the public in our favor if they truly knew how much work we put in and what ends most of us go to ensure an ethical kill. The data suggests that there's a significant appetite for that content from the general public.

That’s true. Sort of off topic but it’s sort of funny how many people get in trouble like that and sort of survive socially for one reason or another. I knew who lost his job, a few months later it turned out that he had sexually assaulted a co worker and basically left town to avoid more severe consequences. When word got out about what he’d done, even though it was public record and there was a victim, nobody I mean NOBODY believed it and they still swear it was a setup or some kind of conspiracy. Why??? Because they went to church with him so there’s no way he did that.

Because these influencer types are about 100 times as likely to commit wildlife violations as the average outdoorsman- look at the Bowmars, Muley freak, this dude, or any of the others that get caught. They are exploiting a resource we all care for deeply for personal financial gain and to fulfill their narcissistic need for attention from strangers online. Lots of podcasts talking about how many more animals get wounded these days than the historical average despite huge advances in weapons and ballistics, which is absolutely because impressionable young kids grow up watching cam hanes posting wildly unrealistic shot distances or whichever flat brim it was that made several terrible shots on the "fIRe BulL" and then paraded it around social media.

Influencers have done more to destroy hunting than any radical PETA activist ever will, and we as a community need to aggressively police ourselves before we hand one too many lay ups to the antis.

His Idaho sentence was basically nothing for poaching a buck and I believe he only plead guilty to trespassing and got off scott free for shooting a buck while trespassing. He also got off in Utah a couple of times before they finally did something
 
Well, this is disappointing to see. I’m literally shocked.

Ryan helped me with a chapter in my book and I helped him and family at his Western Hunt summits a few years back. From what I got to know of him, this seems so out of character.

Not sure what happened and I’ll guess we’ll see if there is a trial. A sad day for all sides if this turns out to be true.

Do remember for now this is at the charges stage, not convicted.

Are they more likely or just when they do get caught we all talk about it? If I was to commit the same poaching offense nobody is going to start a thread about “Linton gets caught”.

I suspect you’re right that there is a pressure to break the law for $$ but just not sure how prevalent it is vs “common folk” who nobody pays attention to.

I’m not sure I agree that influencers have negatively affected hunting overall. Just look at the influence and voice that Joe Rogan has via his intro to Cam Hanes then Dudley. Hunting is going out of favor, the same way as most things agricultural and such. Another example…without the social media pressure/exposure from influencers on the public lands I bet that Mike Lee garbage gets left in the BBB.

Seems a "high profile" person would be extra careful to dot the Is and cross the Ts
when it comes to the legality of hunting.
Can't say I'd fault him for popping a wolf without a tag in MT, but if he filmed it, well, that's
a whole nother level of stupid.
But then again he's from Bozeman, right?

By the way, who ever came up with the title "influencer" for people who make youtube videos?
Aren't they just entertainers; some more entertaining than others?
