Just wanted to share another solid experience with Twisted Barrel.

This is my 2nd barrel they have fluted for me. First one was a Shaw stainless and this one is a factory Savage sporter barrel. I wanted to take some weight off it and wasn't sure he would do factory blued so I checked with him and he said sure. I had him do six spiral flutes then Cerakote with a graphite black finish. It turned out perfect. Matches the factory finish really well. Took 4 oz. off the barrel and it looks fantastic. Best part is his turn-around was only a couple weeks! If you're considering having a barrel fluted, I can recommend Twisted Barrel with confidence.

Here's the website: https://twistedbarrel.com/

His price list and order form are very straightforward. Communication was very good too. Straight to the point.

Good to hear. I remember reading your first post about Twisted Barrel and made a note to consider them when I decide to flute a barrel. Have you shot the new barrel yet? Did it affect accuracy at all? That’s my biggest concern.

I have a Ruger American Predator that I’d love to shave some weight off of. However it is the most accurate rifle I own and I’m concerned the fluting may affect the accuracy. It shoots so good, I almost don’t want to change a thing with it. I have a Timney trigger for it, but I’ve talked myself out of removing the stock and installing it. Right now I’m of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality

It looks like they did a great job both on the machining and the re-finish. Personally I can't see any point in spending the $ to take 1/4 lb off a rifle. Much cheaper and easier to loose a 1/4 lb myself, and it doesn't make my rifle any more difficult to shoot well. Each to his own though. You chose well in your selection of craftsman to get what you wanted.

Haven't shot it yet. This barrel was a shooter which is why I was willing to invest in it. Still cheaper than what I can order a custom barrel for, it's a known shooter, AND I had what I wanted in 2 weeks and not 12 (or more). The first barrel they did shot just as well before as it did after (it was a supremely accurate barrel) and I'm confident this one will too, but I'll see soon and be sure to post up the results.

It's not about total weight so much as it is about balance. And 1/4 lb. in the hand is noticeable on a 7 lb. rifle over the course of days and weeks at 9, 10 or 11k feet in steep terrain. I like my hunting rifles at 7 lbs. and 40-41" total length and after the work the final gun weighs exactly 7 lbs. and is 41" long with a 21" barrel. At this point in my life, I'm kinda particular about a few things, and the way my hunting rifle carries, balances and shoots is of particular importance to me. It just brings me joy. And I can easily waste $230 on things that don't bring me as much joy for as long as this will. Plus one of my kids or grandkids will get to enjoy a "unique" Savage rifle that once belonged to dad or grandad. So there's that too.

You're right about the craftsman. He's an ace!

Finally got to the range today. Doesn't look like it hurt the accuracy at all. If anything, it may have improved it. LOL That's 4 shots at 100 and the one to the left I shot after adjusting the scope, then I forgot to aim off. Could easily have been four in the same fat hole.

That's why I was okay with spending some money on this barrel. I saw how well it shot and figured I'd be keeping it around for a while. Can't ask for more than that from a factory barrel.
