Yeah no kidding^ I would take a good dog over spray.

my buddy was part of the long running bear study in Canada. He took his German shorthair with him everywhere. That dog saved his bacon on multiple occasions.

One time he was releasing a cub from a snare and the mama bear charged them coming out of nowhere. The dog got in front of my buddy and the bear mauled the heck out of it....while my unarmed buddy got to the vehicle Unscathed.

The dog lived but was never the same.

You might want to study the increased risks associated with that choice. Especially with Ursus arctos horribilis.

I didn't realize they're detrimental when it comes to grizzlies. I looked at a few articles that confirmed. Thanks for the info.

I'll never know for sure, but I strongly suspect that his dog was the the cause of my neighbor getting mauled to death last fall by a Grizzly.

Awful to hear. We usually carry both spray and firearm and still it might not be enough. Sad to hear, sounds like neither would have helped in this situation. Sad ordeal.
