Annealing Lapua brass

I reached out to Lapua in an attempt to purchase an additional piece of 243 brass for a 243AI build. I, like others, prefer to retain 100 rounds after the sacrificial AMP piece. This was their response that I found odd:

“Brett,

The "extra" piece of brass was strictly accidental and was not a "thing". It was due to scale set up errors.

Lapua does not recommend re-annealing our cases, as the results of such a procedure can never be guaranteed. Re-annealing may change the case proportions and the metal hardness in a way that makes the case potentially dangerous for both firearm and shooter.

Our apologies for this inconvenience.”

What are your guys‘s thoughts on this? I use an AMP annealer on all brass for my 25+ hunting rifles and have never heard a response like this from a brass component company. Furthermore some of the top-tier companies provide a AMP code for a given lot number. Any thoughts?

Cya. In this day and age, some dipshit will over anneal and mess up the brass and blame Lapua. Them denying the extra piece seems right to me.

Yeah, I have zero issue with that. It was their take on annealing that prompted the post.

Annealing is part of the manufacturing process. No ifs ands or buts about it. They understand that in order to keep the brass consistent and get the most life out of it, annealing has to take place after firing too. Think about how much variance there is with all of the different annealing machines out there and then think about how many dumbasses you see every day. Their response becomes logical at that point.

It sucks that's the world we live in but when someone blows their face off and then tries to sue Lapua and blame it on the annealing code they gave them, this is the outcome.

My husband anneals his lapua branded brass all the time. Had no issues,

It’s CYA for sure. Anneal away.

It sucks to sacrifice a piece of brass to the AMP to generate your annealing code, but it’s worth it. My ADG 338 RUM has 99 pieces in it… wrecks my OCD but at least I know it’s an accurate annealing code.
