Something small chewed up my trail camera pretty good this winter. Anybody else have this issue? Solutions to prevent it?

I’ve seen some neat boxes made with plywood and nails driven facing outward around the outside of the trail cam so an animal can’t chew on the camera or rip it down. Cheap and easy to make.

I've found I've had less bear issues when I spray scent killer on my camera and strap after I set it up. Seems our scent or whatever scent is on our hands gets them curious

We used to have black bears constantly chewing up our trail cameras so we had to buy some stainless steel security boxes for them. Haven’t had a bear make a meal out of our cameras since!
Same here, steel cages. Used to get some great eyeball shots and canine teeth too.

Cow elk just prior to calving seem to raise-cain on my gamecams. My only guess is that the cows are checking out to make sure everything is safe in an area prior to calving?

Golly! Crazy to hear elk are messing with cameras too. I’ve only ever had black bears do their darnest to destroy them. But I guess maybe makes sense as you said, with a momma making sure the perimeter is safe for her young one.

Last year in one spot I had 4 of 5 cameras left nonfunctional due to elk knocking them around (photos showing the perpetrators).

Going to try and rub them with alcohol after setting this year, read that the salt on your hands is an attractant, makes sense because I put them up on a 90 degree day and was sweating buckets
