Anchorage fishing charter?

Any recommendations for a good charter out of Anchorage in sept? Looking for a day of bottom fishing and I don't know jack about it or where to even start, the internet is full of options and I could use a push in the right direction.

How long of a drive is that from Anchorage? Were basically looking to spend a day in a fun, productive manner while passing through, we're not going to AK specifically for fishing.

Take a charter out of Seward or Homer, Seward is closer. Seward is a two and a half hour drive, Homer is twice that. Have fished halibut out of both places, I prefer Seward.i live in Anchorage

We have friends out of Seldovia that run a good outfit. As others have said, head to the penninsula if you are wanting ocean fishing.

I did a beach launch out of ninilchick.

Seward has arguably better scenery but I believe is a longer boat ride to the fishing grounds.

I would look at Whittier for the next trip.

the run to the fishing grounds out of whittier is always further then the run from homer. seward fishing is a little closer then whittier. Fishing can be great out of all areas. What it comes down to is if you want to spend more time in a car or more time in the boat. From anchorage whitter=1 hour seward=2.5 hours homer=4.5 hours. I am not sure how long the beach launches are open in ninilchik and anchor point (ninchik is about 40 minutes closer then homer and anchor point is 20 minutes closer then homer. If you only have a day i would suggest seward or whittier since its not to bad to drive there early in the morning hit a charter then drive home. Its a long day but doable. Are you trying to get out fishing after a hunt or at the end of the trip. If you are doing it before i believe there are a couple places in anchorage that you can keep stuff frozen while you are out doing other things.

Along similar lines, is the fishing decent out of Seward around June 8? Gonna be in Anchorage for a few days then and will drive down if the fishing is good. I've only been to Seward in early May (when it was too early) and mid-July when I didn't have time to fish.

yes charters will be running and if you have your own rod you can try to snag reds off the beaches with weighted treble hooks

Anchorage is at the very northern end of Cook Inlet. There are numerous glacier fed rivers that pump sediment into the area. It stays heavily silted and it is comparatively shallow. It is a long haul to get to deep clear water. That's why others are pointing you toward Whittier, Seward and Homer. Scratch Homer because of the 10 hour driving round trip. To get to good fishing out of Whittier, its a pretty long boat ride. It is out of Seward too, but not as bad. It's a gorgeous area, and whether you catch fish or not, it's worth the boat ride. The drive is nice as well with some good wildlife viewing. Take some binos and a camera.

The last week of June 2019 we fished out of Seward using Pro Fish-N-Sea charters. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I have no other comparison, but we all enjoyed it.

70 lb halibut was the biggest we caught, but we caught 10 different species, including my 9 year old catching an Octopus which he thought was cool as heck. A sister boat radio'd in that they thought they just caught the winner of the Seward Halibut Derby, 250 lbs with only a couple days of fishing left. $10k fish for the fisherman.

Also flossed some salmon on the Russian River at Coopers Landing after a couple mile hike away from the crowds, but that isn't a September trip.

Another option is to check with Nick Ploesser of Alaska Trophy Expediters (Anchorage). He can recommend charters for you as well as take care of freezing and shipping your catch for the trip home.

I have spoken with Nick about fishing charters, but as of yet have not taken him up on his recommendations as I'm unwilling to take any time away from my hunts. I have used him several times for airport to and from transportation. I have also used his service for meat freezing and shipping.

Discover Alaska Adventures out of Ninilchik is a great group of guys and is only part way down the Kenai. Plus how they launch their boats (straight from the beach with a giant tractor), is worth the price of admission itself.

If you were looking to fish shiny fish in the Rivers, I would give Northwest Connection Sport Fishing a shout. Nolan will put you on plenty of fish.

I've gone with crazy rays out of Whittier 2 times and out of Ninilchik with a buddy who owns a boat a dozen times. Seward is ok if you book early, I tried to go for halibut a few years ago when I was there but all they had available was salmon trips. Salmon are bullshit so I didn't go. If I had a day in Anchorage and wanted to get some fishing in, I'd probably get a packraft and try to get some graylings with a fly rod on Cambell Creek then get arseholed at the peanut farm on whiteclaws and well drinks.

If you just have a day to work with out of Anchorage in September you might want to look for a fly out or local freshwater charter for silver salmon.
