I drew my first choice for Idaho mule deer this year, and have since put the recurve down because every buck I've encountered my first 2 times in this unit were beyond recurve distance, and that was when I averaged 50 arrows a day. I'm just pondering, do thing here but seeing as I have my usual Nebraska antelope and deer archery tags in my pocket as well I've got this notion to hunt my first week of my 2 weeks off in September in Idaho, see how it goes and maybe back out head east and hunt western Nebraska the second week and go back to Idaho with the rifle in October. Haven't hunted mule deer with a rifle yet, but maybe it's time rather than getting a leftover CO elk tag. Pushing 50 and want to start eating backstraps instead of tag soup.

Hey fellow Cornhusker! Your plan is almost exactly what I’m doing, but I got a Montana general deer tag. Plan is to head out the second week of September with the bow and hunt. Also doing that as a little bit of figuring out the lay of the land. If I can get one with the bow, great, if not I’ll head back out for the rifle opener. Good luck on your hunts this year!

By now you'd think I'd be ok not filling tags but the cfo is starting to suggest other activities than hunting. Maybe she's not wrong, I'll figure that out this year. Just hoping I don't get dead set on the biggest buck I find and pass on an easy one.
