Had myself convinced that the next piece of gear I wanted to upgrade was my binoculars, so I had decided I was going to get a pair of Swarovisions. Friend of mine has a pair of 10x42 swarovisions that I decided to look through for a good 15 minutes or so and compare them back and forth with my Zen Ray ED3s, and after going back and forth 15 times, I'm not sure I'm convinced the swarovskis are better...

I messed with the diopter quite a bit to make sure it wasn't a focusing issue, but I couldn't seem to get them to focus real great for me. The picture was clear, but it was almost like my eyes were fighting double vision or like I was crossing my eyes slightly or something, and it just wasn't a clear focused image all the way across the view. And even when I could get them to focus, it didn't seem to be noticeably clearer than my Zen-Rays.

I talked to another guy and asked what his opinion was of them and he said he couldn't get his eyes to focus real great through them either.

Am I the only person in the world that has looked through swarovskis and thought this? Or could there have been something wrong with his binoculars?

Sounds like they need to be sent back and gone through by the mfg for a tune up. Mine are razor sharp and I'd expect no less.

I thought maybe I might have been the only person in the world that didn't really like the view through the swarovisions. It wasn't a clarity or focus issue for me though. My eyes picked up a blueish hue through the el's that I don't think I could ever get used to. the el's were out of my price range anyway but I love my slc's.

I played around with them a little more and messed with the diopter setting a bunch more and I seemed to have solved the "problem" and the issues I was having were gone.

The picture definitely is phenomenal, I'm just having a hard time deciding if they are $1500 better than my Zen Rays..

I remember reading somewhere about how some swaros had a design function that some people had trouble with. Had something to do with how some individuals were affected by this swaro design function. Cant remember exactly what it was.

The "rolling ball effect" is real for some people. I had my heart set on the EL's, and after much heartache ended up buying new Lecia Ultravids and am COMPLETELY happy! The EL's had something funny going on in my eyes that didn't look right while panning around. The El's were also the only glass that did this with my eyes......

In reading original post the first thing that popped into my mind was you were not closing left eye & using diopter for right eye focus. It's a common mistake that many hunters are unaware of? They head to Sporting Goods & have several Binos set out for them to compare & they immediately throw each one up & only use center focus, big mistake when comparing binos!

Glad you figured it out! (grin)
