Am asking too much of my 6.5 PRC?

My Tikka T3x Stainless 6.5 PRC also has a somewhat short throat and velocities hit 2800 with Hornady max load of H4831SC and 143 ELDX. I did have barrel cut back to 22".

With that said, its spooky accurate so I'm very happy with it.

Running N560 and Hornady brass I’m getting 3050 fps with the 143gr ELD-X in a 24” Proof barrel. That same load in an 18” Carbon 6 barrel runs 2800 fps.

Rl 26 is what the PRC cartridges perform best with. If you don't care about destroying your brass and having a difficult time lifting the bolt I've gotten 3100 out of a factory Tikka with 147s. Rl 26 gets to 3k pretty comfortably. Good luck finding it though.

Are you out of room for powder, why can’t you add more velocity? Book max is ~ 2950 why not add powder if that’s the speed you want.
Because book velocity is based on a 24" pressure test barrel, and OP is loading for a 22" Tikka barrel. So -25fps/inch and it's about par, considering Tikka barrels are notorious for being a bit slower in general.

Yep my bad. Missed the barrel length, I read through it and somehow thought it was 24. So it’s damn close to book max velocity and saami max pressure.

I have a Tikka w/22" barrel, my goal was 3000 fps w/147 ELDm. The best I can get with H1000, Retumbo and RL 23, is 2877.
140s are about the same.
135s @2990.
About the only powder I have yet to try are the VIHTAVUORIs but I don't think I'll get the velocities I'm looking for since I'm already not achieving book velocities.

I’m pushing a 140 Berger 2915 with n565. Haven’t hit speed up yet either.

seekins ph2 24 in barrel n565 and 156 berger eol can get 2945 fps. Dont have coal in front of me but sure it is longer than you can probably fit in your mag. Bearing surface imo has as much to do with max velocity and where pressure is found as grains of bullet weight do. The 156 is long and pretty heavy for 6.5 cal but not a lot of bearing surface. So slow powder and loaded out it does pretty good i think.
