Does anyone know if the show has to deal with hunting regulations? Wondering if the production company has to obtain small game/fishing licenses or big game tags for each contestant? Or is there some sort of separate agreement with fish and game?

Looks like the Arctic seasons take place on First Nation land with game and fish laws being governed by the tribal authorities? not really sure.

Keep in mind that in previous seasons contestants with flaws in their game were intentionally picked, otherwise the season wouldn't end because a few of them could last for years. This season has 100 day hard stop, everyone who lasts 100 days gets $1,000,000 and several of them look to be tougher than any previous winners.

I believe the seasons on Vancouver island are on a Rez. If you look in the backgrounds you can see clear cuts. I've been binge watching Alone. The season where they had duo's was good. I would guess being "alone" for that length of time would drive some insane.

We've watched a few seasons and it seems that most of the folks on there are "professionals" in the art of survival and do it for a living.

It is all basic stuff we, as hunters should know and most likely a lot of us did stuff like that as kids - not for 3 months straight, but enough on and off to have sufficient "training" and practice. Snares, sling shots, traditional bows, fires, camping under snow laden pine boughs, fishing without rods & reels, etc. The back country hunters on here would be serious contenders.

They really haven't had many hunters on there. The guys who were tromping around cutting trees and brush to funnel/direct the animals to them? They actually hunt? LOL!

After a day or two or three of checking out your area and maybe hunting big game you can set the gill net on a point and build your hut in the best place to be. Not like you're going anywhere for a while.


Ok - question. Been a few folks who've gotten seriously sick after eating a squirrel or muskrat or fish eggs or something. Do you think that was from eating raw meat or something else?

Not sure the backcountry hunters would fare so we'll. Take your 6000 c/i pack stuffed full for a 10 day trip. Dump it out and pick 10 things. See you in a hundred days!

The newest seasons are my personal favorite. Like rob86jeep said above, Rogan had a great podcast with the winner of season 6.

The moral of the show (for me)... take your time, think before you act. You can go from top of your game to complete mental breakdown because you misplaced a firestarter and you start to panic.

A great lesson to learn in regards to just being careful, never become complacent, and always treating vital equipment (like the ability to make fire, or take the shot) with care and making deliberate decisions with how you handle it.

they do very much follow the hunting regulations. they reference them at times during the show. I have spoken with Jordan, last years winner and he talks about having to follow the laws as part of their adventure. When they first arrive in the location they spend a couple weeks at a camp getting ready, learning the equipment and during that time they get their hunting permits, licenses, etc.

watch season six and the current season. They finally started casting hunters and people who actually spend time in the backcountry and they are killing it...literally. The "bushcrafter" specialist is kind of a farce. Great on youtube, great on weekend journeys where they play survival. not so great when they actually have to live it.. it was funny how many of those "survival experts" could not catch a fish or kill anything more than a mouse in a deadfall trap.

In the first season, during their safety briefing before they went out to their locations, they had a couple fish and game officers there and I recall hearing them say that they had all resident hunting and fishing privileges extended to them while filming. There may have been some restrictions (no furbearers) like there were in other seasons though.

I remember this. He told his family before left that they would have to rescue the bear, not him, if there was an encounter.

First day off the boat he saw a fresh pile of bear shizz and hit the button.

Good stuff.

That was Season 2. He kept filming bear droppings and you could tell he was really disturbed by it.

Interesting. I need to go back and watch that. I did notice a few episodes into season 6 where it was mentioned participants cannot hunt foxes.

I am current with the show this season and wanted to ask if anyone else noticed the Gun rack behind mark in the after show. Wall was stacked with Gunwerks and Blasers, every gun was one of those two brands. Not sure if they’re all his and he’s letting everyone know he won, or he has a wealthy friend.
