You guys have given me some great advice and alot to think about. Towing is definitely one of my things I want to be able to do. Getting up the Mountains with a trailer is a big part of why Im after a truck. Also I want this to be a daily driver. That will be reliable and get me where I want to go. Going to start looking at the Titan's They are a nice truck. Anyone got any feedback on the Nissan Titans?

I've got a 2011 Titan I've put 70k on. What you want to know?

Ive got a 2011 crew cab Pro 4x

I am really pleased with it. aside from usual upkeep(Oil and fluid changes) the only things i have had to do it, I replaced the shocks with bilstein's and they were a huge upgrade. I had to replace the evap vent control valve($90) and an aftermarket rear axel vent. Thats it. i did the axle vent as its preventative, the factory vents get stuck and can end up blowing the seals out of your rear end.

She runs like a top and starts when i turn her over. I am very happy. I have towed my dads 23 ft super vee, I have towed a covered trailer with goose deeks in it, and have put 2000 # of gravel in the back and it didn't miss a beat.

Things I Like:

Comfortable inside. plenty of room for full grown men in any of the seats.

Offroad ability. if you can fit, it will take you there. it is a wide vehicle though, but has a GREAT approach angle, and plenty of ground clearance.

Turning. for a full size truck it turns very well. turns tighter then my dads F-150

Towing. it will tow pretty much whatever you want. if you need more truck you will have to go up to a 2500 class rig

Bed Tie downs: I didn't think i would care, but I really like their utili-track system. its pretty damn slick and makes securing stuff in the bed a breeze.

Things I don't like:

The interior has a bunch of plastic, what doesn't anymore besides 70K king ranches. But still not a fan

Bed size. With the crew cab you can only get a 5 1/2 foot bed, which is bullshit. but i don't camp in the bed and I don't haul lumber so it has not been a real big deal for me. i also have a cargo trailer, so again not a deal breaker for me. extended cabs can have 7 ft beds though

You get 13 in the city and 18 on the highway. That is it. do not expect anything better because it wont happen if you've got real tires on it. I have Cooper ST Maxx 275/75/r18

It is Wide... I beat the Shit out of it on some of our logging roads, there are times i run the mirrors in as they to are wide. I do have the tow package and tow mirrors. not body damage or anything, but it is going to need a good detailing to fix all the scratches and dings. But its a truck, and i bought it to use it. `

If i am honest with myself it is to much truck for me 99% of the time, but my buddy works at the Nissan dealership and gave me a deal i couldn't pass up.

I am eyeing the new Colorado's with the diesels. good size for the back country, plenty of room for me the misses and the dog. plenty of towing capacity for the rare occasion, and wonderful gas mileage being reported. my rig will be payed off in December, ill drive it another 3-5 to see how that little diesel holds up and maybe make a move. but id be good driving the titan another 10-15 as well.

I have been in my dads 2013 F-150 quite a bit and our work truck is a Dodge 1500 and i would choose the titan over either.

any other specific questions let me know.

Dont rule out the good ole Z71 either. This is my 2016. 6.2L beast of a motor, lane assist, descent assist, integrated towing brake controller, 4.5 inch BDS lift w fox coilover upgrade, Leer camper, nfab step bars. Expensive, but man is it fun to drive. I know you arent looking for a new vehicle but the automakers are hurting so bad the factory incentives make buying new almost the same as buying a two year old truck. I replaced a 2007 Z71 5.3L with 158,000 miles that never had any problems.

Yep Ive been looking at them also. Nice Truck Gelton. Unfortunately my preferred dealer doesnt have any Titans for sale. They do however have a 2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 that is nice only 68k miles too. Really liking that one alot too. Im trying to stay in the 22-27 range. I doubt I could get that much off a new truck. Hard to say though. My options are fairly open.

Here in KC there are $10k+ Rebates but you'll still be in the mid to high 30's.

Checkout Laura Buick GMC out of the St. Louis area, best deals on GMC's you'll find nationwide and a cheap flight from Denver to there. You might be shocked what you can get if you add $8-$10k to your budget and get no miles with warranty.

Tips... I have an 08 crew cab pro-4x with a 7' bed for our errand and shop yard truck.... Did they stop making the 7?

Otherwise he pretty much hit the main points. Our Titan has had the snot kicked out of it and it's amazing. Takes a lot to impress me but this little engine that could, does... I've got 220k abused poorly maintained miles and it continues to act new. The plastic interior is "annoying" but it hasn't loosened and rattled yet. Tows somewhere between 1/2ton and our 3/4... I'd only get the pro4x though as the other standard models don't come with a rear locker to my knowledge

I believe they did unless it was special order, he had 6 on the lot and none of them had the 7' or that's what I would have bought. Not 100 percent on that though.

The pro 4x is the only model with the locker standard.

About 2 weeks ago I had 1 1/2 cord of 100" sticks hooked up to a goose neck tandem behind our Titan because our other trucks were out and it pulled it like a 3/4 ton... Didn't squat any worse and all the power I could've asked for

Randy Newberg has sung the praises of his Titan forever. He's beat the crap out of his and it keeps plugging along. I'm a Toyota guy myself so I prefer the Tundra, although I drive a Tacoma lol. Gas mileage will be about the same between the two and both have great reliability records. I will say that Toyota needs to figure out how to put a good set of leaf springs under their trucks, their stock ones are shite

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a Subaru. AWD and I can park at any trailhead and blend in with the hippies. My dad has a new Forrester and gets almost 40mpg on trips. My tacoma is less than half that. Those things are ridiculous in the snow...but not really a towing rig. Ahhh, trying to balance out the best of both worlds.

If looking at a Titan or Tundra you should then consider a GM 2500 with 6.0, much more towing capability and you only lose a mpg from a 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton. I went with a GMC 2500 gasser because it offered more capability for not much of a mpg decrease.

apples to oranges at that point.... however the only GM's I'll buy now are 3/4's and up. Still not completely sold on their Dmx's (I've owned enough to be biased :)) but their 6.0 gassers are friggin solid. That 6.0 was/is a great motor. I don't know that the OP is looking for that much truck though based on his posts....

SHTF- If you have a bead on a great used tundra you won't go wrong with it, like I said the only edge I'd give titans over the tundra was a 7' bed and a true selective rear diff locker.

Thought I posted this yesterday but I don't see it. You should be able to get a lower miles 2011+ F150 with the 5.0 for that price point, I've heard good things on that era platform/motor. Supposed to produce good torque at lower RPMS rather than having to rev and also decent mileage unloaded.

The Rams have come a long ways IMO. My wife drives a '14 ram and loves it. I recently took it on a 4k mile drive to Idaho for my elk hunt and it did awesome. I think we averaged 19 something mpg for the whole trip, and running 85mph isnt exactly fuel efficient. lol There isnt much I dont like about it yet and we have put 45k miles on it in the last 2 years.

I would stick with a more stock height truck though. I recently added Bilsteins up front for a 2" leveling kit and it looks good, without effecting the driveline angles much. At first i put a big heavy aggressive tire on it and i could really notice a difference in power. Luckily i get tires at wholesale and sold those to a buddy and put a less aggressive and stock size tire back on and am really was happy i did.

In my research i noticed most guys that have tundras dont get as good of mileage as the rams do. Check out Fuelly.com for actual real world MPG on all kinds of vehicles.

Good luck on your purchase! Id love to sell my tacoma(which has treated me well) and get a 13+ ram with the 8spd auto, but not in the cards for me right now. Il just keep stealing the wifes truck. lol

Personally the MPG issue on trucks is somewhat of an Oxymoron for me.... I don't really notice/pay attention. I have a vehicle for fuel economy for my wife, but when I need a truck MPG is something I don't consider. If you need something to drive you across country that new dodge eco diesel is something. A friend is getting low 40's and so far he's been issue free (I don't think that's a cummins, maybe a foreign diesel?)... However it sits about as high as a imported street racer and I know for a fact that bumper/molding won't withstand BLM/NFS roads :). If fuel economy is a concern than a Subaru outback is a good vehicle.

I guess I'm the odd ball out. I keep converting my truck back a few decades. When I was looking for a truck 8 years ago, I wanted an 03-04 Ram 2500/3500 Cummins, QCSB with manual transmission, manual transfer case, 3:73 rear axle and power windows and door locks. I've pulled too many stuck trucks out, who couldn't get their vacuum operated 4x4 to work. I have since put Yukon manual locking hubs on the truck. Yes, I have to get out of the truck and lock in the hubs. Next year will be a WIY winch bumper for the front.
