Got a cpl hundred inbound myself to play with. Certainly curious.Had 500 of those tipped SMK’ show up today from raven rocks, I’ll load them up for my dad in his roughtech 308 for this fall and report back on how they shoot.

The price was definitely rightGot a cpl hundred inbound myself to play with. Certainly curious.
Have that powder and meant to try it with the 178 X’s, never did. Might’ve been the oneI was gonna load some 178’s for shits and grins with TAC, also a tikka. I don’t ‘need’ them to shoot but also curious and will help me get a firing on some virgin brass
I’ll post up how they shootHave that powder and meant to try it with the 178 X’s, never did. Might’ve been the one![]()
The tikka I have didn’t like the 178 eldx with a variety of different powders. That thing loves the 168 smk and tmk. It’s a 16 inch barrel.I was gonna load some 178’s for shits and grins with TAC, also a tikka. I don’t ‘need’ them to shoot but also curious and will help me get a firing on some virgin brass
Yes mine loves smk/Tmk as well, but I gotta an itch that’s needs a scratchThe tikka I have didn’t like the 178 eldx with a variety of different powders. That thing loves the 168 smk and tmk. It’s a 16 inch barrel.
They shoot good. Tried ten rounds of a random charge in my match rifle. I had already had good results from them in my utility rifle and wanted to see how they did in another barrel. They didn’t disappoint. They won’t be a go-to in my match gun because the BC is relatively low, but I’m sure gonna use them in my utility and hunting rigs!Had 500 of those tipped SMK’ show up today from raven rocks, I’ll load them up for my dad in his roughtech 308 for this fall and report back on how they shoot.

Wow very nice! I have 2 tikka rifles to try these in. I’ll throw a load together first for my dads roughtech. They shoot good. Tried ten rounds of a random charge in my match rifle. Hornady precision hunter 178gr. Is what I’ve switched toLooks like Michigan will be getting rid of the straight wall requirement down state. Gonna make my 308 my new deer gun! I'll be looking for the best factory ammo for up to 250-300 yards with 150 and under being the most common range.

I don’t need another gun or project. But that seems like a good comboView attachment 1041773View attachment 1041772

Finally got to try out a few of the Raven Rocks 168 TMKs. Maybe easiest load dev ever.
Barrel is 20” Tikka CTR I bought off EBay for a cpl hundred bucks. Spun it up to a chromoly Tikka T3 action I got in a trade. Had it all Cerakoted and stuck it in a second hand RokStok I procured here.
Lapua brass fired 5-6 times. BR2 primer, 168 TMKs loaded to mag length (2.925”) and 45.4 grains VV N-150. Zero pressure signs at all, if they’re there the Lap brass is soaking it up. Group shot with horseflies annoyin the piss out of me too.
The whole sum of the randomly acquired parts certainly came together better than it should haveI don’t need another gun or project. But that seems like a good combo
Speeds..?I shot 10 rounds yesterday. 165 gr AB 44.0 Varget Nosler brass Tikka 20 inch barrel and suppressor. This rifle also likes the 178gr ELD-X with 42.0 gr Varget in Peterson brass. View attachment 1041784
That velocity seems really good for a 20”, I’m really itching to go shoot nowView attachment 1041773View attachment 1041772

Was very pleasantly surprised. First time tryin N-150 on anything bigger than .223.That velocity seems really good for a 20”, I’m really itching to go shoot now

Solid speed and temp stability, I like it.
I am not sure, I haven't shot through a chronograph. I have it zeroed at 100yd. 200yd is +0.6mil, 300 is +1.5mil, 400 +2.2, 500 +3.3, and 600 is + 4.5mil. I think it should be about 2500ft/s roughly.Speeds..?
I’d guess in the 2600s based on drop data and memory of my old data but I could be off as it’s all packed away somewhere currently.I am not sure, I haven't shot through a chronograph.
