All things .308 Win

Name one?
Which portion would you like named?

The portion that the 308 win has factory ammo available from 110 grains to 180 grains in all flavors of frangible to mono?

Or that most of us could open our gun cabinet and grab several guns that would work fine for whatever hunt we are planning?

I said in an abbreviated form to name one that could. And yes the gun cabinet is a bedroom full of different rifles and cartridges. But I can name one. The 30-06.

Fine cartridge. Maybe you should start a "All things 30-06" thread. Factory bullets available from 110gr to 200gr last I checked. Some say a little recoil heavy, I disagree.

I think you need to re-read what he wrote and what you responded to. What you said makes zero sense and you were brash about it.
All he had to do was name one. He apparently could not, preferred to be a smartazz and he didn't even start the thread.

"The only problem with having a good 308 is there aren't many cartridges that do everything better."

That quote reads to me as saying the 308 has great versatility on par with only a handful of other cartridges. Yes, the 30-06 would be another. Nobody pissed in any wheaties here. Well, not until the “name one” reply. I’m struggling to see the offense prior to that.

On par with a handful of cartridges. I said name one. A simple question.

The name of the thread is All things 308. My statement about the problem with 308 are that many dont do everything better than the 308. It fits in the context of the thread. The reason I didnt name one cartridge as versatile is because there are, and are not, depending on what YOU prefer. Judging by my reaction, and the reaction of others, you are kind of off in the weeds on this one. I am not being a smart ass or saying you are wrong. I agree with you that depending on your opinions the 30-06 is a great all around cartridges. So is 270, 6.5 anything, 338, 375, and many others. If you want to start a thread about any if them feel free.

If anyone besides me is feeling trolled by this guy please disengage with him. All things 308 win is a great thread. Lets keep it that way.

He's saying it's a great all around cartridge. As in he believes it to be the best do-all cartridge.

You attempted to be a smart ass and said "name one" which makes zero sense.

Sure there are numerous other good cartridges to choose from but he said a 308 is the best to him.

Well if you re-read it from the start, as you even quoted here, that’s half of what he said.

You responded with a two word question. He responded back to clarify and I’ll paraphrase, “name one from part one?
Or name one from part two?”
Then you basically responded, “part one, here’s the answer.” Like he should have been able to mind read.

Like trying to have a logical conversation with my kids.

Well, regardless of this weird tit for tat…my opinion is the .308 is a fantastic cartridge…based on my experiences.
  • Pretty easy to get a rifle to shoot well with most factory ammo.
  • Can shoot a variety of projectiles.
  • Shoots well with different barrel lengths.
  • Easy to hand load with good results.
  • Relatively cheap to reload.
  • Great barrel life.
  • It’s “inherently accurate.”
  • When braked or suppressed, there’s very little recoil.
  • And last, but not least….it kills stuff and fills my freezers.

150 NBT @~2735. No pics of wound but onside shoulder was completely destroyed, lung soup, caught bullet in offside hide just behind shoulder. Didn't mean to hit onside shoulder but he had it back farther than I thought as he was partially obscured. That's how it goes sometimes. Still managed to plow the earth for 30 yards, as he was pretty hopped up on doe estrous.

I need to load up some 150’s. I think it would be a great deer round.
