Why the CTR? And why the heavy bullet?

Because I have several thousand left over from when I used to shoot them in competition. I would like to shoot suppressed. It won't be a hunting gun, more of shoot steel gun. I have owned 3 CTR s in .260 and all three shot great and would stand up to string fire.

They do make a 24" CTR in .308. I could compromise and use that.

I would really like to make sure the throat is long enough for the 200 Hybrid.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m only aware of a 20” CTR in the .308. They do offer a 24” and a 20” in the 6.5 CM.

The 200 Hybrid screams something bigger cartridge-wise than a 20” .308…to me anyways. I’d be looking to go subs with the combo you’re suggesting.

I have shot 10's of thousands of them through a 29" .308 barrel in competiton at 600 and 1000 yds. That is why i have a lot of them.

In a 29" barrel you end up at 2650 ish fps, barrel throated properly for the bullet.

Well there ya go.

Yeah, that makes sense having a super long barrel.

Kimber Hunter, seems to like Winchester power points 150 and Blue Box Federal. Still need to get dies ordered.

Been looking at the numbers for the .308 TMK bullets. If impact velocity is your thing, the 155gr TMK is where it’s at. Assuming MVs of 2850 for the 155, 2750 for the 168 and 2650 for the 175, the 168 and 175 don’t catch the 155 in velocity until after 1000 yards, well past the range for my desired impact velocity for critters.

As far as wind drift, given the same velocity parameters, all three are 5mph guns out to 600 yards. I’ll probably pick the one that groups the best and rock on.

I run the 155s and love them.

I have a few 308s, and they're all very happy about life.

I really wouldn't want to let any of them go, but the one that's on my 'do not ever sell' list was the cheapest: Rem XR-100. I paid $600 for it on clearance at Gander Mountain.

I'd prefer it had a 2-stage trigger, but the single stage it has is pretty good.

ETA: Old pic. It's currently wearing a Leica PRS.

How significant is the difference between recoil from a 6.5 creedmoor and a 308? For comparison, let's assume a bullet wight of 140ish in the creed and 160ish in the 308.

Here's a recoil chart for you... basically, the 308 has about 20% more recoil. My shoulder tells me that's essentially spot-on. I have both in Kimber Montana's, and shoot 140's in the 6.5CM and 165's in the 308 Win.
