All things .308 Win

I’ll have to look at a ballistic app after I settle on a load. 500 yards would be longest possible shot. I’d have to be trying to shoot that far, would be easy to get closer. Gonna try some various factory loads to break it in and see how it does before reloading. Loving all the information and experience shared on this forum.

Some themes you will notice no matter how much people here disagree is, always verify your drop/wind tables, be meticulous about your equipment, and expect the people that disagree to be louder than the ones that do. Good luck with your 308. Happy hunting.

Anyone know why the Federal T308T which states it has a 168 grain tipped matchking with a BC of .480. But if you go to Sierras website the .30 cal 168 grain bullet has a BC of .535. Is it a slightly different bullet? I have a hard time thinking they would make a two diff 168 tmks

They are two different bullets. Federal 308T is a Federla exclusive projectile with an ogive like the 168gr SMK.

Terminally they are functionally the same.

Thank you,

Thats slightly disappointing mostly wishful thinking. Still a nice bc improvement over the ruag styx action 167 we are switching from. Realistic range 300 yards so not really relevant but always fun to shoot at further distances. The Styx have performed terminally very well for us on four legged and two legged creatures usually leaving near fist sized exit wounds. Switching to federal mainly because its less then half the price and shoots very accurately out of our guns. I see what the TMKs have done on game reading the 223/6/6.5 threads gives a lot of confidence.

Have been doing a little reading on “quick drop.” Looked up my current .308 load (168gr TMK at 2707) and 200 is .5 mils, 300 1.2, 400 2, 500 3, 600 4 and 700 is only .1 off at 5.1. If I rounded and used 1 mil at 300, I’m only 2” low, which I can live with on deer sized vitals. Pretty danged handy…

What is your barrel length?

Would you share your powder and charge weight?

I have a 22.4" barrel I took off I need to send in for cut and threading.

I’m at 2666 w a 22” barrel…. I could push a little harder w Varget, not much though.

I finally got things turned around with my 308. Turns out it wasn’t the gun, or things. It was that Leupold scope causing the issues.

Nice; this made me look back and my uncut 22.4" barrel was averaging 2650fps with factory loaded 168 ELDM.
👍 my factory sako 90 peak 20” did an early 5 shot string at 2592 fps ave with that factory 168 eldm with 9.8 sd and 23 es and I did another string many months later that was 2593 with 36 es and 13.3 sd, might not be same lot between them, I grabbed 600 of a same lot after I confirmed it loved this load, so first string could have been on initial off the shelf boxes, good data sharing,

Making the 308 Great Again. 😉
