Multiple misfires out of two boxes, used 3 different 308 rifles, deep primer strikes but no ignition, company claims brass meets SAMI specs on the short side, but deep primer strikes appear to be a primer issue……. Not trusting this ammo for hunting season……

Do you know when this ammo was manufactured? All of my Barnes ammo (300 WM) has a Barnes or Sierra headstamp on the brass.

No I do not, the lot numbers are on the flaps of the boxes….. Not impressed with the companies response. If this is a primer issue it could effect lots of ammo that uses a standard primer. Your magnum uses a hotter primer, you are probably OK. Good hunting, stay safe…..

I wonder if that has anything to do with it being on sale for 30% off at Cabela's in Canada...

This is very strange to see. I’ve got 1000s of these on hand. Never had an issue. Also haven’t purchased any in the last 18months. Assuming that’s when these were made. If it’s a primer issue, in the last couple months, it will start showing up. The guy I’ve dealt with at barnes is definitely sub- helpful when dealing with an issue with their 190lrx and the tips being off center and nickel brass dented. Told him he and I need to take a long walk in the woods where only one of us comes out. Pretty sure he sent me the same ammo back.

All of my Barnes Vor-TX ammo was in Barnes brass. Barnes was owned by Remington until Sierra bought it during Rem bankruptcy. GFL is Fiocchi brass.

Those cardboard boxes look used - are you sure these are factory new ammo, or possibly reloads?

The ammunition is brand new….. I am a little rough on opening the box. Barnes has the photos and blamed the misfires on the brass being within SAMI spec but on the short side……

I recently purchased several boxes, no issues. Will have to check the lot number, brass is stamped SIG.

It looks like they were purchasing brass from SEVERAL SOURCES. I had heard brass was also hard to come by……. I wonder how many sources they were using for primers, which was really hard to acquire……..

Not sure if this is still an issue for others. But I just had 6 misfires in a box of 20. 150gr Barnes ttsxbt. Going on a hunt soon, need to find something else I can trust more. I’m bummed because my gun loves this one, really tight groups.

Leaning federal trophy copper 165 gr. Need non-lead here in CA. Any other suggestions?

Do not under any circumstances trust this ammunition. Look at the primer strikes on my post and Barnes had the gull to say the brass is a little on the short side. I found them totally unhelpful. There must be cases and cases of this ammunition on the shelves now that misfires……. Lots of suprises for the up coming hunting seasons in the next years…..

They should warranty the 20. Also Buffalo bore offers that projectile at a slightly higher velocity. I had one not fire recently out of a newer box. Figured it was my gun. So I disassembled completely cleaned and oiled every component and reassembled without another issue from the same box. Good luck on your replacement choice and the hunt.

I had the same experience with a box of their 150 gr TTSX. I contacted customer support and they sent me a pre-paid label to send them the box of unfired rounds and the rounds that didn't ignite. After a week or so they got back to me saying they were to spec and to check my firing pin, they also sent me 2 replacement boxes. which I thought was good of them. I went to the range and ran 1 of the boxes and experienced 3 primer failures, I have since moved on to Federal Premium Barnes TSX and haven't experienced any issues.

Good to know, thanks! I have a box of the 150 TTSX, only took 3 shots out of it, and one misfired. I'll contact Barnes. Ended up grabbing some federal trophy copper 165gr, Hornady Superformance CX 165gr, Nosler Expansion Tip 168gr. Need to get out and see how the gun likes em, but feel good about the options.

Thanks! I did the same. Took apart bolt assembly, and cleaned everything up. I was happy that all other ammo was shot without issue after the misfires. It made me realize it wasn't the gun.

Mine looked very similar. Bummer because when it did shoot, I was getting great groups with it. Hopefully, others will perform similarly.
