Alaska stika deer hunting September, what boots?

Hey everyone, noob here. I'm gearing up for a hunt in AK and I need to get some boots. Kodiak deer hunt in September. We will be bushwhaking and hiking up. Hoping that we will camp for a few nights before coming down. So it will be wet, and heavy, and hopefully really heavy on the way down. I'm listening to the backcountry podcast to learn up, but wanted to get input from the crowd here.

I’m probably in the minority on this, but I really can’t imagine not hunting in cork boots. I wear Hoffman built Miendle ten inch loggers.

I was just there in late october. I wore my freshly waxed Kennetreks for about a day and a half until they got wet. I then wore my muck boots alternating days. We never had a fire so it took some time for my boots to dry out. I put hand warmers in my boots every night which did help them to dry, Muck boots were hard on the ankles and sucked for climbing up the hills. FWIW my cousin had brand new Crispis which his feet never got wet in.

i wore lowa tibet gtx this last oct early nov. Leather treated them right before the hunt and had no issues.

Which crispis boot was he wearing? I have a similar hunt in September. Very steep and very wet. Trying to decide which boot to go with.

I use crispi briksdals, together with gaiters they have not wet out on me. FYI I use those on POW. Like Loggerdan said, corked boots are popular to be able to walk over dead fall. I tried it, and wasn't to my liking. I will add, I have not been to Kodiak.

I have been using crispi Wyoming gtx 2’s for years. Fantastic boot for early season archery in Wyoming. I will have to check out the guides, and the briksdals. I was looking pretty hard at the schnee’s granite uninsulated boot.

I always bring a set of simms waders to kodiak and simms boots. If its raining nothing will stay dry except waders. If you luck out on a sunny day any waterproof boot with gaiters should be ok

You'll need good breathability and a moderately stiff boot. I'd go a non insulated boot. If you're going above treeline through the alder be ready for some steep slopes. Go try on a bunch of boots and see what feels best. Good luck with the bush whacking, that's the worst part.

You need Calk Soles !!! Hoffmans Meindel would be my first choice but they would be expensive for one trip. So as an alternate get Xtra Tuffs with Calk Soles
