Alaska Grouse Population

The population of all three grouse species [Ruffed, Sharptail & Spruce] in the Delta Jct and Tok areas is extremely low and local residents are asking hunters not to come here for grouse.

The birds were in the lows of their cycle and the bad winter and late, wet spring have really decimated the population.

The number of data points they have to use is laughably low, kinda makes their science a shot in the dark, imho.

Send in your wing samples when you can, more data will help manage the populations.

Kind of surpried at their sample size. It does seem like an incredible low return rate.

Here's what makes it even worse: I submitted an enormous percentage (high double digits in multiple categories) of those wing samples as just one hunter.
