I've been applying for Alaska Mountain goat for years. Never drew. They say odds are 10% or less.
May be time to hunt BC... and be done with it.

My problem is I'm looking for an easier goat hunt, and I did find 2 outfits in Alaska that said the hunts are not too bad.

anyone have experience with a goat hunt that was doable for an older guy ?

My 68 year old father just knocked down a goat with Bob Milligan in BC. Bobs early winter goat hunts when they are in the rut are feasible for those less physically inclined. Just be repaired to shoot 300-500 yards.

How was the terrain ? I know some drainages are ankle breakers. leg breakers.

My last sheep hunt, the guide wouldn't even let me retrieve my sheep from 400 yards up a drainage. He put on these special boots, with a wire tightening cable to bring his foot securely planted into his boot.. far superior to my Crispi's. He used poles, and went up slowly. Took him 2 hours. I stayed down below on the 2 track road.

Did he do the boat based hunt (rubber raft type boat with motor)? What did he think of it?

A boat based hunt in Southeast, Alaska has the possibility of being an "easy" goat hunt. I've worked for one such outfit that offers these hunts, and every year we see clients shoot goats without having to climb. They aren't cheap though.

Easier is relative, I guess. The boat based hunts in SEAK look really easy sometimes, especially later in the year.

I hunted a unit on Kodiak island that was pretty easy, as in we didn’t have to hike far from the lake we were dropped to shoot a couple goats, and never carried camp. Still had to burn some boot leather though, but there was no soul extracting climb through the alders to get to the alpine. Maybe call some of the outfitters on kodiak?
