Going to the north slope of the brooks for caribou in mid August.

Is the Sitka merino gloves and beanie enough warmth wise? I usually run warm.

Suggestions of an alternate to that set-up?

Would a second set of gloves be worth it with a 70lb fly in limit?

Thanks

What if it's rainy/ snowy? I'm going the first week September but I'm bringing an outer shell guide glove with the wool inner. Light and medium beanie as well. If you looked at the historical weather it can really fluctuate up there. This will be my first time too hopefully a couple others will chime in

What tbone said. Last year I believe they had a freak cold snap and heavy snow in August. Even if you don't pack it all in, I would have plenty of options with me in my truck so I could change out appropriately at the air field once you have a better idea of the immediate weather to come.

Remember that most air services don't count on body gear against your pack gear weight. So stuff your pockets with snack food or small items like extra gloves.
For a beenie I like wind proof ones and so far chilli grips are working well in the cold and wet.

Suggestion: Add a high quality down beanie and down mittens to your gear. The weight penalty is nil vs the incredible warmth. I prefer Black Rock Gear; specifically their Foldback Fingerless Mitt and their Hadron S beanie. I also own one of their brimmed caps and it just might be the warmest cap I've ever owned. I can stuff a down beanie and their mitts (they use 950 fp down) into a one-quart zip and the weight is a few ounces.

Thanks for the thoughts. I hadn't thought about taking it up there but leaving it at the truck.
I typically where those thin gloves year round in utah and Wyoming I know it's not Alaska but semi worried about not being able to wear something because my hands are sweating out. But would be nice to at least block the mosquitoes.
What about something like the kuiu guide glove?

I love the guide glove. Pretty weather resistant and could wear wool inner if temperature drops a bunch. Wore mine crawling around stalking antelope last year you should be plenty good for mosquitoes

Sorry looks like I'm just repeating myself taking up space

Marmot Exxum Guide Gloves- They are worth the money. You often can find them on sale.

Apocalypse Designs Explorer Hat- Waterproof and with Primaloft. This is freakn primo for Alaska and bad weather.

Love the Sitka Merino beanie and glove for most things, but for AK, I add a Jetstream Beanie, that I can wear over the merino or on its own and the Gortex Mountain Glove. I can pretty much get through any conditions with those 4 and they don't take up much space.

I just got back from Deadhorse...it was 70 last week...then this past week it was 35 with 20-30 mph winds. Wished like hell I would've brought more clothes.

Thanks for the info.
I'll be taking some waterproof gloves and a warmer hat.
Would love for it to be cold enough to need them for the bugs.

Black Rock Gear down beanie is awesome, I take it everywhere.

Last august it snowed a bunch on us, glad I brought warm mittens! Will again this year, even if they sit in the tent all day.

Wind helps with that. I did not see one single mosquito while I was there. I'll be back up in a few weeks and I hope it's not as windy. For as windy as it was, I'd take bugs and wear a bug net, over the constant gales.

Ended up with the kuiu Yukon. Got them today. Seem nice and should would. They better for how stupid expensive they are.
Thanks again for the advice.
