Looking to go black bear hunting wondering if I could be pointed slightly in the right direction live in the mat su valley willing to drive and hr or 3 have a sxs that I could throw a tent in the back and get in somewhere and camp and hike from there or just backpack right from the truck

Look at what units have the highest tag limits…

My recommendation is head south and glass the mountains and hills. Or heads towards talkeetna.

I assume spot and stalk is your plan.

ok yeah that's kinda what I was thinking do you know anything about the petersville area?

For what it's worth my wife and I hiked the Harding Icefield trail (not a hunting area). We found some berries still out and saw a brown bear far away. Farther north things seem a lot more dead as far as vegetation goes so I assume less berries left. I'd look for a bear above treeline as far south as possible. Look for berries and bears eating them.
