Has anyone ever hunted with Renfro’s Alaskan Adventures ?
I’ve been invited on a moose hunt in 28’. It’s a drop camp style hunt. I’d like to know if anyone’s had experience with this outfitter.

You’ll find Renfros mentioned in many threads if you look back a ways. They seem to be very highly regarded among knowledgeable members here. I think their area has a lot of moose. Enjoy your hunt.

Renfros is known for being one of the best/most popular moose transporters. If you have the opportunity, make it happen. "Getting in" is half the battle.. good luck!!

From everything I’ve gathered through my own research on the internet, talking to past clients, and other outfits, this is the synopsis:

They kill a lot of moose, kill a lot of big moose, and run a ton of hunters. Lots of reports of waiting in the hanger for days on end because of the volume. Some reports of people not really happy with the experience, crowded and commercialized is what came up in my research. Also a very good chance you’ll be hunting in a gigantic swamp, not picturesque Alaska. They still maintain an incredibly high success rate because there are tons of moose in western AK.

If killing a moose is more important than the overall experience, I think they’re a great option.

I opted for a different experience for my fly in hunt next fall, knowing good and well that odds of success are lower. I’m ok with that. I want the picturesque AK experience and don’t want to be left feeling like a number.

I'm hunting with them this year and this will be my 4th time hunting in alaska and 1 hunt in alberta. I've had the picturesque Alaska and wouldn't do any of those hunts over again but I will be very happy to finally go to an area with a high population of moose and not have to worry about measuring width and counting brow tines. My success with hunting as always been the adventure so I've never left a hunt with a moose (haha) or a lack of adventure or disappointed. That being said as the price continues to rise for hunts I finally decided to bite the bullet and go to a place with very high success rates as it would be nice to finally bag a moose and the adventure all in one trip. Here's to hoping that the 5th hunt is the charm!

Very well said, sir...and I agree with you. The best to you this year!

To the OP...as others have mentioned previously, do a search here on the 'slide, and get a perspective of those who have experience with Renfro. My experiences have been positive, which I have posted. I'd also recommend that you spend some time on the ADFG website and compare the moose numbers across the various GMU's...look at past harvest statistics, estimated moose density numbers, antler restrictions for a legal bull, etc. That will give a somewhat objective/numerical perspective of moose harvest probability across GMU's.
