Can anyone point to where it calls out a minimum caliber size for rifle hunting in AK? I searched the proclamation but saw nothing for rifle caliber size related to deer hunting

As far I know there isn’t a Caliber minimum for deer in AK. What are you planning/thinking on using?

Would like to take the 223 with 77TMKs. But think I read on here there was a minimum caliber in AK but I can’t find it again. I’ll likely call them next week but ideally would like to see it in writing or the lack there of

The only bullet/gun requirements that I can think of is for bison, and that’s a bullet weight and energy requirement.

There are no caliber limits for rifles or handguns in Alaska.
Bison has a 175gr and 2800ft/lb of energy minimum.
Muzzle loader has .45 limit.

You won't find it in writing because there isn't one.
Only limit - https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=deltabison.weaponslegalhunting
Or I guess the top of page 19.

"Hunt big game using a firearm other than a shotgun,
muzzleloader, or rifle or pistol using a center-firing cartridge,
EXCEPT: in Units 23 and 26, swimming caribou can be taken
with a firearm using rim fire cartridges."

So any center fire is legal, except in 23 and 26 where rimfire is legal for swimming bou.

Why would a swimming caribou only need a rimfire cartridge? Curious.

Running them down with boats and shooting them in the water seems a bit much… but when you’re hungry, you do what you have to do

Subsistence is all about being as efficient and productive as possible in the short windows of opportunity that you have. Ie. Dip netting salmon, caribou in the water etc.

I have no problem with the native population having rules that protect their ability to feed themselves. They have a very hard life. It's not like some out of state guy looking for a trophy is killing off the population.

When I read the original post, I had no idea they were killing Caribous from boats.
