Air Lock Industries Suppressor

Getting sidetracked, but...

The reported averages in the AB video are wrong, regardless of test setup.

The diff is small, but it makes one question what else was done wrong. Could just be oversight. They did take 6 samples for each config, which is commendable. But it was done with their old SLM, with limited sample rate. They have new equipment now, and maybe a better understanding of log units.

After a few days of FedEx screwing around, it’s here!

This thing is insanely light and looks amazing. 5.7oz on my scale. Best finish on a 3D printed suppressor I’ve seen to date.

In stock on the site, if it doesn’t sell quick it’s gonna wind up as a demo can on one of our personal guns 😂

Look forward to getting some more in and getting some time behind one!

taking new can out of printing, flushing it and then shooting it causes it to be much lower dB than it really is due to residual fluid left inside until it completely burns off.
As an example, doing the same to an OG variation the other day, it showed multiple 123 and 124dBA readings, and then slowly creeped back up after 15-20 shots to where it really is.
Intriguing -- thank you.

Does this imply that I could potentially dunk my can in a creek, shake it out, and hunt with it for a day without necessarily needing ear pro?

Haha.

I am highly skeptical of 4.3” long suppressor (actual MF length) and 130dBA.- that’s an AB Raptor 8, one of the best near 7” long cans.
Not even due to any purposeful deceit, but just taking new can out of printing, flushing it and then shooting it causes it to be much lower dB than it really is due to residual fluid left inside until it completely burns off.

As well, there will be actual cartridge and barrel length restrictions on a 1.7” diameter sub 6oz can.
That makes sense I kept wondering what magic fairy dust they were sprinkling on there to get those numbers.

Will anyone at UM/S2H be getting their hands on one of these and testing it?

Also heard about these guys from the EXP podcast. Once I get a dedicated can for my 6ac its a toss between this and the OG. Hoping folks start commenting about their experience with the airlock can.
If the decibels are real I don't see a very good comparison. Quieter, " longer, almost half the weight. I will ne picking one up.

I remember seeing on a show or movie WAY back in the day, these tactical operators poured water into their pistol cans prior to entering a structure. I guess the wet supressor theory holds merit. I figured it was just some Hollywood BS.

They do make gel to go in suppressors that makes them quieter. Takes a lot of energy to convert a liquid to gas. I am sure that will help quiet down a can.

There was or is a outfit that makes a spray in foam for suppressors. If I remember correctly it was good for like 5-10 shots. Seems unlikely it would matter in a hunting situation. Running dry for 1-2 shots on a suppressor should not blow your ears out. JMHO.

I have no clue what the correct way to compare suppressors is but I've been really impressed by this little Airlock. Here is a super quick video showing the following cans in the following order...

TBAC Ultra 5
TBAC Magnus K
Airlock Zero Gravity
TBAC Ultra 7

These were all shot from an 18" Sig Cross with 147g ELDM's going about 2690fps.

The different tone is exceptionally apparent to me when shooting as well as in the video. What isn't as obvious is how good the recoil impulse feels. It's very linear and feels a lot like the Ultra 7 does. The Ultra 5 always feels jumpy to me.

I did notice the airlock starting to show mirage faster than the larger/heavier cans but not until about round 5 which on a hunting can I will gladly trade for the lighter weight and better suppression.

Overall I think people will be really impressed with this as a lightweight option for small bore hunting rifles.

I can be really tell much from the phone recordings, but I do appreciate you making them.

Thanks for the video!

Cellphone/camera recordings are not appropriate for noise analysis but it still gives us some idea of the sound quality. Especially when combined with your impressions.

Definitely appreciate you taking the time to film and post it.

Full transparency, I am friends with the owner, and this is my first can as I've only started hunting/shooting for about 2 years. I picked mine up today.

Sorry to bug you, bbump13, but am wondering if you know any design details for the baffles or chambers?

Or, is anyone from Airlock Ind. a member of this forum?

I'm curious about the name of the company too, especially with the reference to aerospace where airlocks are used. Seems like there might be an interesting story there, that led to designing and building cans!

Seemed to be a notable improvement over U5 and Magnus K.

Agreed, This was filmed on a small 4k Camera with the sound leveling turned off so while not ideal, it should at least suffice for comparison on some level.
