Age and Points

62 now. Have 20+ points here in WA for just about anything with horns. I can't seem to draw. Have had a few cow tags, but that's it.

I've got points in all the western states where they offer points except the left coast for about everything worth hunting. Upper tens to 23 or 24 points depending on the State. Put in primarily for sheep but might as well apply for the rest while you are at it. Have drawn several tags for elk and mule deer in prior years and a bighorn in Colorado this year.

At this point in my early 60's, still planning on playing the game for a while. Going to Wyoming with my older brother for elk next year and we will likely do a deer hunt there in the nearer future. Really going to have to decide at some point whether to use what I can and possibly let some go up in smoke.

Im 68 and just drew in Colorado w 30 points. Burned all the Co deer points a couple years back.

59 y.o. I have points all over the west, but as I draw I either drop completely out of the points game or transition to easy draw or otc depending on the state. At 23 points for moose in WY, I may still be applying when I die. Same goes for sheep in NV and UT, but I just weigh out my options each year.

Yep. Started many years ago and still in the game. Accumulated enough points to be pretty much guaranteed to draw an Elk Tag in a state or two. Have a Sheep Hunt this year and will make it a point to do an elk next year. But I wouldn’t recommend the draw game for anyone not currently invested. Now that I’m getting toward guaranteed draws, states keep changing the rules to make it harder for NR hunters.

30 years now of trying to draw a sheep and goat tag here (Montana); going to keep applying/getting preference points until I get one or die trying

It did play in my favor in convincing my wife I needed to go to Alaska to hunt sheep; I'll give it another year or so and then try it again to see if it works for goat

Just turned 78 and will not apply for bighorn sheep in MT next year. I have 21 bonus points but it a scam as I see it. MTG

Been lucky enough to have a lot of great big game hunts. Going to focus on killing birds with my dogs till I can't drive and walk anymore. Will still kill a few midwestern whitetails and maybe a WY antelope.

I’ll be near 70 this next hunting season, so I’m going to try to cash out my Oregon Mule Deer & Antelope points in the next year or two.
Might Retire from work.
Then plan on going general season hunting, spending lots more time scouting & hunting & spending more time just getting out there.
Lots to do, archery, rifle, hunting, bird hunting, fly fishing, hiking, backpacking, camping etc.
Lots more family time.!!

As I posted elsewhere, my friend in Maryland drew his Wyo. sheep tag in 2022 with 23 points and this year he drew an AZ. desert tag after 34 years. He got his Wyo. ram at age 83 and his desert a few weeks ago at 86.5! Never give up is his motto!

Damn, those look like some kind of titanium hardware store project. How do they feel/walk?

There’s no pain, but my ankles don’t flex which makes it difficult to sidehill or get around in rugged terrain. I just turned 70 years old in October and I don’t get around that great anymore but I’ll keep going until I can’t. Here’s a buck I killed in November this year in Colorado.

Turning 69 this year. Still have max points for deer and antelope in Wyoming. 27 deer points in Colorado and bunch of points in Utah and Arizona. I’ll keep going until I can’t as well.
