My buddies and I are heading to Afognak with two elk tags in October. I have never hunted elk, and am wondering if it’s worth it to try and learn to do some cow calls on a diaphragm before heading out. Our plan is to spend most of our time behind glass once we get up high. But a cow call could be useful in brush or trying to get an elk to stop. One of our crew picked up a hoochie mama call. Zero idea of their quality or use. Thanks!
As for other suggestions for this hunt, I al mentally preparing myself for a sufferfest. We will have bear fences, and helly hansen.

I would 100% have elk calls. Keep it simple. Hoochie mama sounds like an elk, I would definitely use a diaphragm personally, a bite and blow style call is east to use too.
