Advice on boots...

Almost the same story for me. I purchased the lowa ranger and have loved them.

I've seen a pair of Solamon Quest for half the price. With the season coming very soon, I may have to take the same path you and bates did! haha

I blow through a pair of Lowa Renegades pretty much yearly but I'm not in the woods, I just need the quality footwear for my daily "life" and since I started using "heel that pain" insoles it's been even better ... I wore a pair of Rangers for nearly 2 years to include soaking them in speed goat blood n guts (among other things) GREAT boots

Just to clarify, my comments about Meindl boots from Cabela's was on the ground observations from a bunch of hard working guys and gals who are overworked and underappreciated who get cold and sore feet in all sorts of adverse conditions just like the rest of us - I personally saw it as of some good value of knowledge

I wore a pair of salomon quests for 3 deployments in Afghanistan, 3 training cycles in a ranger battalion and 4 hunting seasons in western Washington. Still rock them for summer hikes and dry hunts. Shoe goo helps a lot. Best boots I have ever worn.

I find my Lowa Rangers are a great all-around boot.
