Adoption/rescue program?

If you are looking for a dog that hunts, purchase a started dog. The dog will have been groomed or trained to hone their natural abilities and received basic obedience training.
I think that if you just want a hunting breed to casually hunt with, adoption/rescue might be right for you. I’ve concluded that dogs are put up for adoption, surrendered, dumped, etc for a reason. You’ll need to keep your expectations realistic. It can be an awesome experience.
I’ve fostered a couple griffs and adopted 1 through AWPGA rescue.
Not sure that you could bank on a rescue dog being any less work than a puppy.

I got my first Brittany from a breeder after she failed her OFA exam for hip dysplasia. She is ten and I keep her on joint supplements and NSAIDs as needed. She’s been a great dog so you might work the phones/google and see if you can luck into a similar situation

It’s a 5k surgery to fix and most did with bad hips don’t make it past 7 in their hunting career.

That being said get a pen hips as well, they’re more accurate
