Adjusting focus on a scope.

I recently bought my first scope that has a side focus knob as well as a eyepiece for focusing. Is there a proper procedure to to get things adjusted for the first time?

Focus your reticle with the eyepiece against the sky, and use the side parralax as needed per range.

Diopter adjustment focuses the reticle, side focus is to focus the target

I get it now. Went through the process using a white wall, but now I'll redo it outside once we get a blue sky day.
