Adding hip vents and mesh to Sitka pants

Thanks for the response and link. I was eyeing this seam before I posted but thought it may be too high up and not long enough to actually be effective for cooling? Have you noticed this being the case or is it actually worth it to have it altered there? The vent on my Tiburons is much lower down the thigh as well as a longer zipper and works great.

I have not had a chance to properly test them in warm weather yet but I am sure the vents will extend the temperature range on the high side. As mentioned earlier, when I opened them in cool weather, there was an instant noticeable cooling effect.

Heat rises, so I don't see it as a negative to have the vents higher up on the pants. The only concern might be wearing a pack...depending on where your harness rides on your hips, you might have some difficulty accessing the vents...longer zipper pulls might help with that.

The vents open 8 in. compared to about 11 in on the Tiburons....so just based on that, one would assume that the Timberlines vents would be about 30% less effective....but without any mesh to obstruct the flow and limit the opening width...the flow area is probably pretty similar.

Skimmed right over your previous comment. Thanks for the info. Please update your thoughts on these throughout the season as you see fit.
