Added Weight For better sleep

Slept on a 30” wide camp pad last night and got a 84 sleep score that is so on par with at home scores.

Gonna look into a wide backpacking pad in a long with a r value over 4 looking for a light as possible

I wouldn't use earplugs in the backcountry since it adds to vulnerability to any dangers. I'm looking to add the Therm a Rest NeoLoft to my arsenal and switched from stuffing clothes into a sack to an actual pillow (Nemo Fillo). The pillow swap was a huge game changer to my rest. I like my Nemo Tensor sleeping pad but I have some room to add a little more weight hence the switch to NeoLoft.

I went to rei and spent 1 hour testing pads abs purchased both a sea to summit either lite xr pro and a big agnress rapid sl to test at him and ill keep whatever i like best

I tried out that Nemo fillio that thing is super legit I just can swallow the 8 oz weight for that weight I would try and get a rear rifle rest / pillow

So, to conclude this, I bought three pads and three pillows and tested them all while sleeping on them at home. I also measured my sleep scores on each.

Pads:
- Sea to Summit either Light XT Pro
- Big Agnes Rapid SL Large
- Thermarest Neo Air Lite (not XT)

Pillows:
- Klymit Blown Up
- Outdoor Vitals Blown Up
- Custom Goose Feet Gear with clothes stuffed in
- Just a puffy in the sleeping pad bag

The Big Agnes’s Goose Feet Gear combo is what I used all season and had much better sleep. That combo also scored the highest sleep scores at home and performed much better in the field compared to last year.

My conclusion: Take the 1 lb penalty and get better sleep.

For inquiring minds that sleep poorly...hurting/tossing and turning to wake up feeling miserable...and have never tried a hammock in the outdoors (or indoors) try a hammock that fits, and sleeping diagonally you may discover blissful sleep.

With a hammock there are no pressure points as weight is more evenly distributed. There is a bit of a weight/pack volume penalty for cold weather and it is worth it.

unless you’re in grizzly country, big fan of ear plugs. calms the mind big time.

I’m also a side sleeper, so a second inflatable pillow as a body pillow makes a world of difference for me. I like the sea to summit one (2-3oz depending on model).
