Active outer layer HELP

I’m looking for a new active outer layer, I have been using a kuiu axis but found it’s not that gear in heavier rain. Temps range from below 0 to 40° in the area I hunt. I typically backpack in and set up camp and walk 3-5 miles throughout the day. I wear a fl wick, peloton 240 and the axis currently with a lost park puffy for when I’m sitting still. What should I get as an outer layer to replace the kuiu axis?

Yeah, I guess what I’m wondering is will the rain gear still work similarly to the axis as an outer layer? I use the axis as a layer to cut down on wind and it offers a little bit of insulation too, I also don’t sweat my ass off in it since it has vents.

In my opinion rain gear kinda sucks unless it's steady rain. Something with pit zips goes quite a ways towards preventing overheating when you're active.
