Action bolt length

I finally received my AG stock and started to assemble my rifle. Right away I noticed that the bolts that were supplied with my Hawkins DBM seemed too short. If I screwed them into the action I bet there are only two threads that would grab. That seems insufficient. I can get some other bolts about 1/8” longer but I am surprised that they would ship the DBM with short bolts. Has anybody else experienced this?

Pretty common with many brands of stocks and bottom metal combos.
Contact Hawkins I think they make some longer screws also.

Could just be the inlet depth is not as deep on the AG as other stocks and that's why you are not getting the screw protrusion that you would expect. I bet if you give @HawkinsPrecision a call or shoot them a DM they will get you all taken care of or have a good explanation!

Yep. Very common. Too much variation in stock inletting to be able to make a one size fits all screw. They should ship those with short and long screws. Or just long ones, you can always grind em down.

Many DBM bottom metal is shipped with pillars and bolts of the correct length to allow the mag to fit and feed correctly. If the mag is too high or too low it might not feed or latch properly. There’s a fairly narrow range to get them to function properly. The fact that the bolts are “short” makes me wonder if the mag is going to ride too low. I’d look that over first before I condemn them for “short bolts” that may actually be the correct length.

Im not condemning anyone. This is the first custom rifle that I have assembled and the short bolts caught me off guard. I have to assume that AG properly inlet the stock but I wont know for sure until I can function test it. Im hoping to swing by the store today and grab some longer bolts.
