About to get interesting…

Spotted a bunch of deer from 2 miles off this morning. 3 miles from the truck. Got up above them and there’s a nice 3x4 and a forky with a bunch of does. They’re skirting private. Finally went onto private and the waiting game started. I’ve been on them since 830. About 11 a couple guys skyline up in a ridge. They’ve been glassing and I think they saw the deer. They obviously see me. I guess moving on isn’t an option for them. It’ll be interesting when this buck comes back over the fence! I’ll have a 700 yard shot…they’re probably 900-1000.

if you and your buddy are sitting on a knoll watching some guy freeze his ass of and some deer feeding on private toward a fence…go away!

I thought I was slicker than the Rokslide oil change thread a few weeks ago videoing some folks walk a real long way on public to totally blow out a few dozen deer on private, jump that fence, and continue to hunt the private. I took that over to the property owner's house...and it was some folks who had permission. He was a little salty about them jumping the fence and not using the gate, but told me if we wanted permission to hunt anytime to come on back.

It all turned out fine in the end. Short story…I shot the buck 2 times and the bastard wouldn’t die. Broke his front shoulder and I believe hit him mid body. The other 2 guys knew the landowner. Told him I was unethical, shooting over their heads, etc. all bs of course. I think they knew that buck was in there and were pissed I was in there first. The buck ran back into private. I called the warden who called the land owner who told him the other guys embellished story. I got the full Kyle Rittenhouse interview. Guilty until innocent of course. What gun do you shoot? How far do you practice? Did you have a bipod? How many times did you hit him? How far was the shot?

Warden turned out to be a good guy and we got it all figured out. The landowner is letttijg me go in tomorrow to look for the buck. 2.5 hour drive, 4.4 mile walk to get back to the spot he jumped the fence but I owe it to the buck to do whatever I can to find him.

I let him get 100 yards from the fence before I started shooting. The closer he got to the fence the worse my shooting was. Hit him the first 2 times then I was just wasting shells. Missed 3 times. He was walking really slow so I’m hoping he was hit hard. I really hope to find him and do an autopsy.

I assumed you were home, but like me when I get home from many hunts, pretty much dead to the world, shower and pass out about the moment I hint the mattress.

I certainly hope you find him.

Hope you locate the deer in the morning good luck to you. Is it nice and cold where you are. Do you have predators to find your deer wherever you are?

I bet you will bring a comfortable car camp after this experience. I know I would rather spend 5 hours in a toasty bag than driving back and forth. Good luck in your recovery.
