Head out the door at 4am and was at the trail head by 630. Made it the 4.5 miles to the fence right as the landowner pulled up. He came with a couple friends. The 5 of us searched for 2 hours and didn’t find anything. No deer, no blood, nothing. It snowed last night so the chances were tough. We covered a solid draw that would be the likely place for him to die. I did find 6 elk sheds! I left them where they lay, they didn’t belong to me. The land owner was about the nicest guy I could ever hope to meet. I guess I’ll never know what happened. “If Ifs and buts were cherries and nuts everyday would be Christmas.” Or whatever my buddy always says. I hope he made it to keep on breeding even though the land owner said he was crabby in the back and didn’t like the genetics. 😂 I think he’d seen him previously.

So there ya have it. 3 donkeys and a wounded deer never to be seen again. The 2 donkeys for moving in on me and trying to cut me off on a deer I had set up on and me, donkey #3, for letting the 2 guys get in my head and making a bad shot.

That sucks you guys couldn’t find the deer, can’t say the thought didn’t pass through my head head too “that the land owner had it” but I’m sure it’s out there someplace. I bet when the snow melts a little the birds should give it away. Any chance you’re going to try again?Did you exchange info with the land owner he may find it later this year. Just to clear up any “what if’s” in your head.

What are you shooting?

No that was it. The land owner mentioned he was looking for the birds. He runs an outfitting business out of there so he knows the deal. I don’t think he took the deer. He has a few thousand elk that winter on his giant ranch. Plus beef. I don’t think he’s hurting for game meat. And he didn’t strike me as the type. He said he had hunters arriving Tuesday and they were out scouting so if it turns up I bet he would find it.

shooting a 7saum.

I just texted the landowner and asked him to let me know if they find him dead or alive later in the season. He should be easily identifiable with the limp. He said absolutely! Thanks for the suggestion!
